Thoughts on Topaz DeNoise AI?

I moved to the Olympus MFT system a couple of years ago and have enjoyed it overall; however, one drawback I've encountered is noise in low-light situations using higher ISO (of course). I've seen quite a few people online mention the wonders of Topaz DeNoise AI, and I'm wanting feedback from the UHH members who've actually tried it or use it. I did search the forum and saw discussion from as recent as a year ago--some liked the old DeNoise 6 better than the AI at that time (though I understand the v6 is discontinued); but has AI improved over the past year? I should mention that I do have Affinity Photo which comes with a noise filter, but I haven't been able to produce significant improvements with it (maybe due to inexperience/incompetence, haha). So does anyone here think DeNoise AI is truly amazing, or not so much?

I do realize that Topaz offers a 2-week trial, btw, but I've read where people say AI is more complicated to use than the v6, and I'm not sure at my recreational level that I'd be able to master the learning curve in time to make a good judgment in that time frame; thus I'm soliciting opinions.

Thanks!
Kevin

...it's dirt simple to use, UTube provides many tutorials. It is worth the trouble, especially given your lack of noise abatement software.

Yes, amazing. Not complicated at all. It is the first thing I do with “all” of my files in post. I use it as a photoshop plugin so I can make changes if necessary on a separate layer. I have not used it as a stand alone program, but I understand that is an option if desired. Now that I have it, I would not be happy without. Go for it.

I find Denoise AI second to none. It is an essential part of my workflow and gives me excellent results at high ISOs. A game changer IME

Topaz DeNoise AI is quite simple.
You can just run it in Automatic Mode.
But if you want "complete hands-on control," there are all of just two sliders to deal with: Remove Noise and Enhance Sharpness. That's it. Hardly complicated.
Finally, you can further tweak the process with two additional but optional sliders.
You should definitely take advantage of the free trial and try it out on your images.

I have recently tried On1 NoNoise with outstanding results. It is simple to use. I think that it's worth pointing out that both DeNoise and NoNoise work best if applied to the original RAW file before any other processing is done.

All us evil geniuses shoot M43 Oly cameras and use Topaz DeNoise to overcome our decision to shoot Oly (I like the system for a lot of reasons but it does have its downsides.). So, yes, it works for me. I recommend it and Topaz Sharpen to rescue a shot that is a bit fuzzy. Doesn't always work, but sometimes!

M43 is a fun format but takes some work...maybe I'm not so smart after all!

Cheers,

Hmm, I hadn't heard of On1 NoNoise before. Does anyone else here prefer it to Topaz DeNoise? Do the results consistently favor one over the other? Again, I'd prefer to start down the path that most have already found most beneficial.

I think it does a better job than, say, Lightroom. However, it takes a LOT longer to do the job. So, I tend to use it only when it's critical.

There is very little learning curve to using Topaz Denoise AI effectively. It is a very simple interface compared to most post processing software.

The processing speed depends on your computer and especially the specific graphics card you are using. If you have an acceptable graphics card, Topaz Denoise AI will make use of your card's GPU to speed up processing considerably. On my midrange machine it will usually process a 24mp raw file in around 10-15 seconds.

ON1 NoNoise is new and a direct competitor to Topaz. In my experience using both, Topaz gives better results.
