Refurbished memory cards.
I've been building up an extra supply of memory cards. I need to watch my funds, so I looked over at eBay and found some 'refurbished' compact flash cards. I bought a couple, for less than 1/4 the cost on our favorite store ... Amazon. I've tried them and they seem to be working fine.
Have any one else here purchased refurbished memory card?

A refurbished memory card is basically a used memory card that has been formatted and tested. Refurbished just sounds better than used.
I don’t buy used memory cards. On a trip I’m afraid they will fail at the wrong time. Spend $ for a camera and $ for a trip doesn’t make sense to buy used cards.
How many do you plan on amassing?
I have about 5 each 8 & 16Gb cards, bought new, usually on sale.
That's enough for me.
One has no idea how the previous owners of used cards treated them or how much they used them.
Used is definitely not my first preference to purchase.
I guess because my camera has low MP and I don't shoot a lot so I never worry about cost of memory cards. I just try to find the best I can. Besides my camera too has 1 card slot so reliable card is also important. I just buy whatever I think is the best.

This is the type of thinking that makes people think you don't really care about your images. I don't know how to be more serious.
What brands are you buying refurbished? If they're not SanDisk Extreme Pro, why not? Your images aren't worth about $16 per new 32GB card? Has anyone ever heard of a SanDisk Extreme Pro card failing? Anyone? Ever??
Did you see this story in the main section recently?
https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-702205-1.htmlBTW - memory cards are not long-term storage devices. You need only as many as your longest trip, assuming you can offload images during the trip and reuse the cards on the road. I don't have every card stacked here at the keyboard, but for 3 full-frame digital bodies and 1 pocket model, I'm pretty sure I have just 12 x 32GB cards - combined, both CF and SD, maybe only 10. How much of an 'extra supply' are you creating?

I have never purchased a refurbished or used memory card. Why do you need an extra supply of memory cards?

Maybe he has two cards????????
What was your interpretation of "extra supply" compared to his??
Sorry, but this is the technological equivalent of buying out-of-date milk in the hope it hasn't yet turned sour, or, in the old days, buying recapped car tires in the hope one wouldn't kill you.
But it is I suppose preferable to Russian Roulette.

You’re not serious ?!?!?!?!?
If you’re that short of $$ sell a lens. I can see that you clearly have too many.

Many analogies around here are poorly chosen. But your three are just right !!!
The only out of package cards to buy would be from a respected fellow hog who who trust, and who states these are unused or 99% unused. Sometimes they are still in unopened packaging.
Put a request in the uhh classifieds and try your luck. I trust certain fellow hogs waaaaaay more than any online retailer of used memory cards !!!!!
Well CF cards are quite a bit more than pricewise than SD Cards. I might go refurb for an old Canon I have in conjunction with an SD Card in the other slot.
I'm sure most people reuse their cards, is there really any difference between reusing a card you had from new and one that my have been used by someone else?
If it's still full capacity, why not? Even better if its from Amazon, if its no good you can send it back

Depends on how much used and/or abused...
Think anyone might be selling dead used cards?
Or are all sellers on the net on the up-and-up......
