What was your interpretation of "extra supply" compared to his??
He said he has been “building up an extra supply”. He also said he had bought two cards on eBay. Those two comments led me to think he had more than two cards and maybe a lot more. It doesn’t matter how many cards he has or why. I was just curious.

Or what an "extra supply" means.
I mostly use two or three cards, I guess my other seven could be considered an extra supply?

Well CF cards are quite a bit more than pricewise than SD Cards. I might go refurb for an old Canon I have in conjunction with an SD Card in the other slot.
I'm sure most people reuse their cards, is there really any difference between reusing a card you had from new and one that my have been used by someone else?
If it's still full capacity, why not? Even better if its from Amazon, if its no good you can send it back
Refurbishing a memory card amounts to wiping the dust and any old data off of it, refurbished is nothing more than a way for a seller to avoid using Used when he lists it.

You can run it thru the dishwasher.

or the washing machine~! you can even smack them with a hammer but don't static zap them to much.
I appreciate all the comments posted here. When we travel abroad, I would use only new memory cards. I've been known to purchase several new one prior to travel. Locally, with three camera bodies, I travel locally, and offer one of them to my friend to use. In all of these cases, upon return to home, I always Toast (that's Apple's copy program for PC members) them immediately to DVDs. That is my major reason wanting to have several (maybe many) spare 4DB Ultra III Compact Flash cards. Thanks for the input.

Why 4GB? Most any camera that could address 4GB, can also use 16GB. The last time I was using 4GB was a Canon Rebel XTi circa 2006. Google may be wrong, when when I google "max card size rebel xti", someone on the internet is saying this ancient body can / could take 64GB in CF format.

"Refurbished" makes one erroneously infer that it was "rebuilt", as in a refurbished car, apartment, lawn mower, furniture, ...
MUCH more appealing than "used".
Using 4GB means that I can Toast it, and then make a dual coverpage for jewel box, where I store all of DVDs, and CDs from years past. And before anyone says they don't last, I've pulled images from 2005, our first visit to London. The CD still works just fine.
But that is why I favor 4GB.

Even I with a mere 16MP camera would use a 32GB card. 4GB card is too small and you may run out of space while shooting.
With 32GB and 16MP camera even with RAW + JPEG the card isn't full until I run out of battery power at which time I would swap both.

Might if I could but I can't so I won't.
(Camera will not utilize 32Gb, and I can get about 500 shots on a 16Gb card.)
I'm not worried, and less to loose in one place if something goes worng with the card.
4Gb will get me about 160 shots. No problem, not too small (for me)

Sorry, but this is the technological equivalent of buying out-of-date milk in the hope it hasn't yet turned sour, or, in the old days, buying recapped car tires in the hope one wouldn't kill you.
But it is I suppose preferable to Russian Roulette.
It's not the same thing.
Most of the memory cards I own I used before. And I will continue to use them, I don't simply throw them out after first use. If a memory card has previously been used by me or by someone else, what's the difference?
Reformat the card, do a quick test to make sure it works. If it passes the test, then it's good. Just like any other card which has been used previously.
I am still using two refurb SanDisk SD cards I bought in the past. I have used them for several years without issues.

I've been building up an extra supply of memory cards. I need to watch my funds, so I looked over at eBay and found some 'refurbished' compact flash cards. I bought a couple, for less than 1/4 the cost on our favorite store ... Amazon. I've tried them and they seem to be working fine.
Have any one else here purchased refurbished memory card?
For my once in a lifetime photo's, I like the idea of new.
Now I have officially...heard it all.
