I wear my camera cross body on a fairly wide strap.

Okay Hedgehoggers, I need some help. I just bought a Pentax K1 Mk ii with battery grip. Beautiful camera but damn it’s heavy to be hanging around my neck all day on the chinsy strap that came with it. So, please suggest a better shoulder strap option. I’ve researched a bunch and it seems like a lot of them hang by the tripod mount-hole...this doesn’t seem like a great place to suspend all that weight. Thoughts? Thanks in advance, all.

I carry a 5D Mark IV. It is a beast similar to a K1. I liked the feel of the battery grip but really hated the bulk of it. I rarely use the grip unless I have a long shoot. I have a tripod plate which slides on and off for a wrist brace.
But I’m assuming that’s is not what your in the market for.

I don’t like the propriety stamps because they are thin and advertise your expensive camera.

Let me suggest two choices. The first may be a “rather” bulky harness like a horse bridle. It won’t be attractive but will be extremely sturdy. It could be used for a second body. The other choice is a neoprene after market neck strap. The material is breathable and allows for bouncing while walking. So both choices are available from OpTech. Good luck in your choice.

Happy Shooting!

I am happy with my Optech camera strap.

I'll add another vote for Optech. I purchased their inexpensive cross shoulder strap that carries my camera just a little below my waist and somewhat behind me. It's comfortable yet makes it easy to bring the camera up to your eye. I also like the fact that it attaches to the camera strap points rather than screwing into the camera's tripod mount but other people seem to prefer the latter as being safer.

My all-time favourite:

The camera hangs in front of you, easy to lift to take photos.
Weight is distributed over both shoulders.

Optechusa also makes an "Urban Sling" completely black with no logo and a cut-resistant braided stainless steel cable for added security.
This sling also has a one-handed quick-adjust system and can be worn cross-body on the left or right shoulder.

I carry my 5DmIV with the 100-400 with a Peak Design Slide strap and it's very comfortable. I use the dual plate on the anchor mount so I can attach it to the "tripod mount point" on the camera so I can quickly attach it to my tripod (when needed) and it hasn't disappointed yet. Most importantly, the strap is very comfortable, the attaching anchors are more than durable enough for heavy equipment, and it's relatively cheap.

The Slide comes with multiple configuration options, including an underside anchor.

Thank you John for info. Watched video and strap looks great.

Haven't read through the entire thread so this may have been mentioned already, but I've been using a 4V Design leather strap on my Nikon F4 (a beast) and love it. After trying many, many straps, including Peak Design, Optech, Black Rapid, Domke, etc., 4V Design finally gave me the security and comfort I was looking for. Because I hang my camera from my shoulder, I wanted a strap that would grip securely but not irritate even after a day of walking and shooting. 4V does that. Plus it's leather, so it just gets better with time. Worth a look.

I have OpTech. It is flexible/stretchable, so the weight is always displaced, not always jerking on my shoulders when I walk.

Up Strap. http://www.upstrap-pro.com/

I love this company and their ideals. I also have their straps on every one of my carry-able cameras. They stand behind their product and that's a fact.

I also use this strap. I bought it for a trip to Alaska last summer. I carried my camera daily do 8-10 hours and never felt any discomfort. It is well worth the price!

I've been using the simple OpTek Pro Loop strap since the F5. About $ 20 at B&H. Best of luck.
