Okay Hedgehoggers, I need some help. I just bought a Pentax K1 Mk ii with battery grip. Beautiful camera but damn it’s heavy to be hanging around my neck all day on the chinsy strap that came with it. So, please suggest a better shoulder strap option. I’ve researched a bunch and it seems like a lot of them hang by the tripod mount-hole...this doesn’t seem like a great place to suspend all that weight. Thoughts? Thanks in advance, all.

I carry my 5DmIV with the 100-400 with a Peak Design Slide strap and it's very comfortable. I use the dual plate on the anchor mount so I can attach it to the "tripod mount point" on the camera so I can quickly attach it to my tripod (when needed) and it hasn't disappointed yet. Most importantly, the strap is very comfortable, the attaching anchors are more than durable enough for heavy equipment, and it's relatively cheap.

The Slide comes with multiple configuration options, including an underside anchor.

There are a lot of great products out there, it just works for me

I forgot to mention that the extra dual mount is only if you don't want to mess with unscrewing the tripod mount to use the camera on a tripod. It is Arca and RC2 compatible, which is what I use.

I have been using a Black Rapid strap and have been happy with it, it more evenly distributes the weight on my shoulder. Not clear whether you have a big lens attached? If so, does your lens have a foot that you could attach a strap to? Most of the time I attach my Black Rapid strap to the foot of the lens. This is the one I use:

I have a strap and a sling. I don't know how they sell this quality at this price.

- Starts at $15.

- Finished on the sides unlike other neoprene straps.

- Two tiny pockets built on for cards or remotes.

Best value for money in my opinion. Simple straight forward replacement.

I think most people here are using the Optech. However this is a very personal decision. I use a self modified Black Rapid. However my all time favorite is Carry Speed(They stopped making for awhile but I understand they are back at it again.)

Old 2" wide black woven cloth with d-look hooks. Very comfortable, I have 4 of them and used since the '70s.

I agree, the peak design is a great strap. I highly recommend it. This strap changed my photographic life.

I use the Peak Design slide. It's wide to distribute the weight, it adjusts length quickly and it snaps on and off in seconds.
But, they have recently started to get too political for me so, I would keep that in mind.

FWIW - I have used a Black Rapid sling strap for many years now, yes it connects to the tripod socket, but I just keep a Black Rapid Arca Swiss plate with d-ring connector on it so I just disconnect my strap and slide into a standard Arca Swiss clamp on my tripod when needed.

Camera, grip & lens supported by strap hang at arms length and easily grabbed by my right hand when needed, also easily held onto by my right hand for added support if needed.

Just be sure your tripod socket is not just held in with cheap plastic!

I have never had a loose mounting screw or a socket issue.

Good and standard advice here. My solution was a bit more involved, but it makes use of the fact that carrying a heavy camera on the body is better than even one of those cross-shoulder straps. I modified a carrying vest so it could carry my rig off of the chest. I go for hours with it, hands free, without a problem. Its written up here: https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-600497-1.html The Peak Design clip is a bit pricey to me, and since then I have made a 2nd harness for a 2nd camera, using this essentially identical clip at a fraction of the cost of the Peak Design: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07NY2CDVY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

A nice feature is that the mount on the bottom of the camera is an Arca Swiss design, so I can literally pick the camera off of my body and mount it to a tripod.
You can include a regular camera strap for a second line of security (I strongly recommend this), but while carrying the camera on the harness this strap holds absolutely no weight. Its just there as a 2nd line of security.

I have a battery grip on my camera, plus a hand strap.
I put "D" rings on the camera lugs and use an old 2" wide denim clip-on strap carried cross-shoulder.
Works for me.
