Leftist politics? What BS. Corporate greed is more like it. If you can get it done with prison labor in China to save pennies then that's the way things will go.

I agree. It isn’t just to China. Sri Lanka, Mexico, Pakistan, etc. These countries have cheap labor, no unions, no worker protections, and no healthcare. Never forget that manufacturers have loyalty ONLY to their shareholders. Therefore, they will do whatever it takes to maximize profits. It isn’t about politics. It is pure American greed.

Read a book.

Both Bushes and Obama bowed to China.

NONE of them were conservatives.

Both Bushes described themselves as conservative. The loss of jobs to China began when the Communist party in the late 90’s changed their politics to managed authoritarian to
And Nixon opened China up for business, to gain leverage in the Cold War with Russia.
The US consumers have gained a lot from doing business with China.
To reverse the loss in manufacturing, American workers would have to agree to take a huge hit in wages and perks, or, the American consumer would have to agree to pay a lot more for goods currently made elsewhere.
Who goes first?

Higher productivity in the US offsets cheap labor plus shipping costs.

One, however, cannot be successful in the international markets when you charge a 2% to 5% import tariff and pay a 20% to 25% tariff to your competitors.

Add in another 5% to 10% higher corporate tax rate and you have the perfect storm.

That difference is what makes imports cheaper here and our exports more expensive there.

It’s basic math, and no amount of partisanship can erase it.

Both party’s have sold us out.

Let's put the blame where it really lies. Corporate performance is directly effected by the pressure placed on the officers by the shareholders. Shareholders want more profit so the corporation does what it can.

And if labor costs (and corporate taxes) stateside are prohibitive (meaning the consumers won't pay that price for a finished product), then they have no alternative but to outsource overseas. It all still boils down to the American consumer and what they will pay. Look at the camera industry. The Mom and Pop shops have disappeared. Consumers would go in, handle a camera or lens and then go buy it cheaper online.... Same goes for all other goods. It's not the corporation or the shareholders, it's the American public...

With the surge in Covid infections, medical workers are once again being hit with shortages. We don't have enough masks, gowns, gloves, or face shields. These aren't high-tech items. We should be able to crank these out by the millions. What's the problem?

A new shortage - coins. Stores have signs asking for the correct change.

Re: coins, I think that is to “limit the spread” of Covid 19. I don’t think they want to handle change, I don’t. I have not accepted any money, coins or paper back in the last four months and just consider overpayments as a thank you for being open.

I thought this forum was supposed to be non-political, Kschwegl and Incognito, but if you want to place blame, lay it on Trump who disbanded the pandemic response team, downplayed the crises, withdrew from the WHO, and wants to take away insurance from the most vulnerable, and expose our children to the disease.

It amazes me how somebody as willfully ignorant and with the extreme fundamentalist ideology you display
manages to make it through the day. Do you have a little elf sitting on your shoulder reminding you to breath,
...now breath in, 1..2..3 easy now, breath out, slowly now, good now let's repeat it...........

This post has zilch to do with the original topic. This only serves to illustrate your bias...

I always get a chuckle out of reading these political discussions.

Once upon a time there was co-operation between the parties. Yea it was strained
at times but in the end both parties could compromise for the betterment of the
United States and its citizens. It seems now that the minority of extremists on
BOTH sides seem to make their voices heard over those that are willing to listen,
think, discuss and compromise.

Now all you hear is my side is right and your side is wrong. If only it was that
simple than we could fix things because it is either right or wrong.

As far as the corporations go, they are overseas to make more money. They follow
the golden rule......."Those that have the gold make the rules."

Sorry for the soapbox talk, time to get off of it and get some much needed coffee.
