This is NOT a tax dodge, in NY I save almost 9% off and B+H still pays the tax to NY state.

What if you buy a $5000 lens?

If you are in an eligible state, B & H will pay the sales tax

I went for it. Applied for credit with their PayBoo credit card and waited for a confirmation on the credit.

Made a purchase and then when it posted with Synchrony Bank I paid for the total purchase online as I usually do. The payment posted WITHOUT the sales tax. I am in Connecticut so that is 6.35%.

If its paid before the end of the billing cycle they eat the tax. The purchase amount is posted without sales tax. If you pay after the billing cycle then the sales tax is added. Not sure how it works with monthly payments as an option.

I would recommend that if you apply and set this up, be mindful of the billing cycle so you have enough time to pay. If you mail a check it goes to Florida so you have to be aware of this. For me I payed electronically.

Just mentioning this as sales tax can add up to a hefty amount. I was skeptical of how it worked but after a bit of beginner confusion it went very smoothly.

I think not all states can qualify for this but if you are interested there is a link or two on their B&H homepage to check it out.

Again just FYI.

With the Payboo card B&H pays the sales tax and gives you a credit on the statement for the same amount. The state is made whole and you are not violating the laws. If you buy something out of state and they do not collect the sales tax, you are required to pay use tax. Use tax is generally part of the state income tax forms.

Rjaywallace I agree with you that the tax should be paid and I file the use tax form every year when I buy from out of state vendors that do not collect sale tax. However, B&H does collect and pay the sales tax. Also, if you cannot afford the sales tax you cannot afford the item. But, I like discounts.

Adorama does NOT charge sales tax.

If one thinks salaries are where the waste occurs in government, they have never managed a large organization doing real work. Nor have they considered the reality that the entire combined salaries of every member of Congress could be paid in-full for the next 49-years for the $6 billion wasted on a vanity wall that can be cut-thru with a saw from Home Depot .... They've seemingly also have never tried to install a 911 system or design and build a road, any road.

First of all you can't do much about paying the tax. B&H does this for you. The customer is simply getting a discount on the order.

I don't feel very bad about finding ways to minimize my taxes. Government wastes a lot of money. Connecticut where the poster lives and I used to live is particularly bad. Taxes are high and services are very low. While most schools are not so bad there they operate with slush funds that are beyond public scrutiny. My wife worked for a mayor. Even the mayor could NOT see the financials. After leaving CT the state tried to shake me down for additional taxes by sending me a bill without an explanation. When the IRS thinks something is wrong they provide you with an explanation. Fortunately, I had my returns from several years back. An unpleasant phone call and letter resolved the matter. My children also attended college outside of CT. They went to better schools and the education was much cheaper. I lived in many other states and most were better than CT but other states have issues too. Watch the national map to see how folks are voting with their feet.

I've seen quite a few companies advertise the fact that they will pay the sales tax. It's another way to offer a lower price.

"Collecting" or "charging" - makes no difference to me. I still have to pay it.

Amazing how fast saving money went straight to a political debate.

I also have the PayBoo card, so I will buy from B&H before Adorama because if it. Smart marketing on their part!
