I suspect it's just a matter of time until they close the sales tax loophole with PayBoo.

It is not a loophole, but a promotional tool by B&H. THEY pay the sales tax, as has been already stated in this thread multiple times.

I'm still trying to raise enough for the sales tax on a $5000 lens. Will start saving for the lens next.

Well, if you’re a Fuji X shooter, then you’ve paid $4000 too much.

Amazing how fast saving money went straight to a political debate.

I also have the PayBoo card, so I will buy from B&H before Adorama because if it. Smart marketing on their part!

Adorama does not charge sales taxes.

If you care about your state, county and city, pay your darn taxes and quit looking for ways to dodge them. Pays for highways, schools, hospitals, fire, police, facilities you benefit from every day. Pay your share.

I noticed they moved the decimal point to 3 digit numbers. NYC didn't want to give you a break, and charge 8.8%. But didn't want to charge you 8.9% either. That' higher than what I pay in California. Sooner, or later, you'll be paying a flat 9%. I bought most of my camera gear from B&H. About 80%. And, before the online sales tax rule went into effect, I was paying no sales tax, and free shipping on purchases over $49. Those good old days are over. But, I don't buy much from them anymore, like I have done for the past 10 years. I pay over 8% sales tax. But, it varies from County to County in California.

In sunny (not so much, lately) Montgomery, AL the combined local, city and county sales tax is a whopping 10%. A true bargain when some of the money was spent by a local state supported university who built themselves a new football stadium after defaulting on a contract to continue to use a city owned stadium that had been expensively renovated for their use. NO mention of when they would get around to providing heat and repairing water leaks that made several of their dorms unusable.

If it as you say it is, its time for voter activism! If it is as you say, get involved and organize. Hold your officials accountable at the ballot box. Organize letter writing campaigns and write your officials. Organize phone banks and call your officials. Write letters to your newspapers and call out your officials publicly. March on city hall, your county commissions, the capitol! Make sure your officials hear your complaints louder than they hear their donors and lobbyists. Just generally be a pain in the a$$ for those officials who aren’t fulfilling their obligations to the citizenry.

I am certain that B&H put a great deal of thought into how to retain their profit margin in a changing retail environment. All credit card companies charge a fee based on the dollar amount of the transaction. They generally charge about 3%. If B&H owns the credit card company, they save the 3% fee which partially offsets the sales tax. When someone carries a balance on their card, B&H gets to keep the interest they pay. Even if they don’t recover 100% of the sales tax, they have legally retained a customer and increased the chance that they will buy from B&H again. It’s the way smart businesses STAY in business!

I went for it. Applied for credit with their PayBoo credit card and waited for a confirmation on the credit.

Made a purchase and then when it posted with Synchrony Bank I paid for the total purchase online as I usually do. The payment posted WITHOUT the sales tax. I am in Connecticut so that is 6.35%.

If its paid before the end of the billing cycle they eat the tax. The purchase amount is posted without sales tax. If you pay after the billing cycle then the sales tax is added. Not sure how it works with monthly payments as an option.

I would recommend that if you apply and set this up, be mindful of the billing cycle so you have enough time to pay. If you mail a check it goes to Florida so you have to be aware of this. For me I payed electronically.

Just mentioning this as sales tax can add up to a hefty amount. I was skeptical of how it worked but after a bit of beginner confusion it went very smoothly.

I think not all states can qualify for this but if you are interested there is a link or two on their B&H homepage to check it out.

Again just FYI.

My experience was quite different. The very first bill I ever received not only had sales tax included, but in fact had an additional $46 charge for late payment. Prior to that I had no idea that my bill would come from "Synchrony Bank", whom I had never heard of. I'm gun-shy now. No more ordering from B&H.

I can do that!! Truly....I can be a pain in the A$$. Who would doubt it? And we should all stand for our VALUES, even when some perceive us as crack-pots. Oh!! Bye-the-way, I can come across as a crack-pot. So be it. Our politicians should take heed, and be aware that they are NOT popular, as a group. RJM
