And why would I go to the FAQ page? Particularly after the first bill received already contained the extra charges!

If I were signing up for a new credit card, especially one that is built around a promotion like this, I'd want to understand all the facts - and FAQ's - prior to committing myself.
Since the first bill you
opened included late charges (
"The very first bill I ever received not only had sales tax included, but in fact had an additional $46 charge for late payment."), it obviously wasn't the first bill that was
sent.
Imagine if you'd been keeping track of time and watching for that first bill from Synchrony 🤔

If you have a heart attack and want the ambulance to come save you I would recommend to pay the sales tax.
Having been in both small town volunteer and big town career EMS for 30+ years, trust me, taxes aren't paying for ambulances, the $1000+ bill that you get for the cab ride to the hospital does. 80% of all EMS calls are simple rides to the hospital where nothing is done but helping someone onto a stretcher and taking their vital signs. People no longer know what an actual emergency is we are constantly being called to "check out" someone as if we can give a diagnosis. Last week I had to take a 29 year old expectant mother to the hospital who was not in distress and didn't need an emergency transport only because she "didn't have a ride". Your medicaid tax dollars were wasted for that. Don't get me going with a nonsensical comment about taxes and ambulances...
Regardless of the diversionary tax discussion, B&H's store card is a marketing scheme, the taxes are being paid. They're giving the equivalent of a "member" discount indexed on the value of the sales tax. What's so hard about this to understand?

Of course the taxes are being paid. That's the law now. The benefit of the Payboo "marketing scheme" is that when all is said and done, the amount paid hasn't come out of your pocket.

What a nonsensical reply. Neither B&H nor the bank offering the credit card did anything under-handed or dishonest. The terms of the promotion are clear; you simply chose to not educate yourself - and to ignore your mail

Personally, I don’t consider financial entities such as banks and credit card companies to be "people", despite humans organizing such institutions and creating rules, hopefully in compliance with laws. GIVEN that there are reports in the news on a yearly basis as to a few credit card companies (and banks that issue them,) defrauding consumers, you are, unfortunately, either quite ignorant or naïve whenever you apply for a credit card.
Before I apply for a credit card, I
make it a point of understanding what actions or inactions trigger
late fees and/or interest charges. If you don’t, Mike, I’m sorry to inform you that you have no one to blame but yourself.
By the way, you are mistaken as to your assertion (on page 6 of this Topic,) that you had never heard or read of
Synchrony Bank before. I know because I signed up for the Payboo card myself; there is simply no way anyone could have signed the electronic agreement on the webpage without seeing the name of this bank, period.
I suggest you just live and learn from this experience.
And again yep OVER tax and nothing for it

Took the words right out of my mouth!
There's one of two outcomes here. Either B&H absorbs the sales tax and remits payment of the tax to the state in which the purchaser resides (which incidentally may not be allowed in some states), or B&H has set up a perfect paper trail for that state to come after the purchaser for payment of the equivalent use tax.
Several years ago Virginia was auditing the records of freight companies that handled furniture shipped from North Carolina, so as to identify and come after purchasers of big ticket items and collect the state's use tax, which is due on items for which sales tax was not paid.
Don't think that it would be difficult for a state to audit the records of UPS and FedEx for shipments from B&H (or any other vendor) that require a signature, i.e. high-value merchandise.
