I join the "never" crowd.

Mostly never. However, the only time I did was for the cards of pictures taken in Ireland.

I do, but rarely, when I have a card with images that I have not had time to download. This is mostly right after I have returned from a trip and don't want to go to the computer right away.

When I travel, I always take a fast laptop and a large USB 3 digital drive, and download the photos to the remote drive at the end of the day. I may also do some preliminary post processing with LR and PS. I sometimes put the SD card with my photos in a separate pocket in my camera bag as a backup. I have never felt the need to lock the card. Perhaps just laziness, but I haven't been bitten yet.

I used it once, recently on vacation, so I didn't accidentally delete my photos before downloading them. Ever since, I have been having trouble when putting it in my PC, it often locks before insertion into pc, or re-insertion into camera. Shutter will not work when locked, nor can you download to pc when locked. Sorry I used it once, hopefully never again.

I thought of an actual reason which I will try. I have a small cheap SD card to which I have saved my settings to restore if I tinker with them. I will lock that sucker.

I'm curious so a survey is in order.

Do you use the lock function on the SD memory and if so how do you use it? What for?

Why? Download. Delete card. How many cards can you afford?

SD Cards are Cheaper Now, I Can Buy a Sony or San Disk SD Card for Around $6 to 8 Dollars at Wal-Mart, a 32GB for Under $20 also at Wal-Mart, when I'm Finished with the Cards I Lock Them with the Switch on the Side, & Store Until I Now Transfer to Flash Drive, Afterwards I Keep Cards as Master Copies, if Something happens to the Flash Drives.

I have my Backup, you have your Backup!

Always when I Finish my with my Cards, I Store them as Master Copies, I'm Now Transferring to Flash Drive, I Lock My Cards to Prevent Accidental Eraser, & also I Use the Protect Device on my Camera to Protect Images also Accidental Delete of my Images.
