Used it accidentally and wondered why the card didn't work, until I remembered that the card HAD a lock.

Do you use the lock function on the SD memory and if so how do you use it? What for?
Never needed it, never used it.

OK IO shoot some events like a trialthon and running festivals with thousands of people.
The first thing I do with this when I get a break is copy valuable footage or stills to my laptop.
Then I copy from the Mac Air to a high Quality external drive. Last thing I do is put the lock
on the card. Then use a fresh card for the next round.
If I have something very valuable like a one time family event etc or course I lock the card.
Why do so many shooters here think this is crazy to lock an important card.
It’s not crazy, just never did it. You make a very good point as to locking a card.

No I don’t, and when it accidentally gets engaged it is a pain in the butt.

I do not use my lock function, however the slide on the card works the opposite from what I would think is right.
If you don't hold the chip in a straight position when you slide it in the camera, the edge of the slot can turn the protect on and you have to take it out to correct the problem.
[quote=Rongnongno]Is that a follow up on the 'what the heck is that thing*' from a recent thread?
Never used it. The only way I know it's there is that, on occasion, I find I can't access the card because it's locked. I don't know how it manages to lock itself. Perhaps it just happens when I'm handling the card (the switch is tiny), in which case, it's a nuisance.

I almost never use it. But have with a couple of cards that are locked containing photos of items for insurance purposes and those cards are locked in a safe. Have not saved those photos to a hard drive because if lost or stolen might then set me up for a burglary and I do not keep those photos on a computer or in camera.

I use it when on vacation. I don’t carry a storage device or computer. When a card fills I lock it and stash it and put a new one in. I have ten 32gb cards, way more than I would fill on even the longest vacation. And you can always buy more if you need them. At home I download at least every other day so never need to lock a card.

What could they put in the little difference in space?
For those cameras with only one slot, they could include a second slot.
Never have, probably never will.
But that doesn't me that I probably shouldn't consider it at some times.
I've had the thing accidentally lock up which is frustrating and sometimes embarrassing when it happens.

So do the Nikon D850 and Pentax K-1ii.
My comments don’t apply to any of them, of course.
