Switching to the subscription model, about 5 years ago, was one of my best decisions. For less than the monthly cost of a couple cups of Starbucks coffee, I always have the latest along with great support. I've used Photoshop forever, but started with Lightroom when I made the switch. My entire PP process is smoother, easier, better, faster and much less stressful. Best of luck.

Tks cjc2, pls see my most recent post.

Curious to hear of experiences of moving from later issues of PS to the newer versions on the subscription service. Glad you did/Wish you had stayed on the old sys.

I am on a Mac running latest version of Mojave. Sooner or later us older version users are gonna fall over the cliff of antiquity.

Was there much of a learning curve when you moved? Major upgrades in the sys that you found useful?

I am a long-time user of PS, going way back to abt the 17th century as I recall. Way before Mathue Braidley started snapping them off.

My main concern is, “Do I want to take on another difficult learning task, just to pick up minor functional upgrades, perhaps stuff I would rarely take advantage of.”

‘Preciate all y’all giving positive advice (as someone here explained recently, “y’all” is singular, “all y’all” is plural.) Us good ‘ole boys who grew up, (supposedly grew up) in Georgia understand the vernacular very well.
Curious to hear of experiences of moving from late... (show quote)

The subscription version is no different than the standalone release(s), just always up-to-date.

Personally, I wish Adobe had Lightroom only and Photoshop only subscriptions. I like Lightroom but much prefer Affinity Photo in place of Photoshop.

I made the "leap" a year ago. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner. If you want to learn the great new features try Scott Kelby's book "How Do I do That in Photoshop".

Tks bwana and wuligal, I plan to test drive the test version and them make a decision.

Glad I switched to Photoshop CC. Same controls, everything familiar. If you don’t want to take advantage of new features, no need to learn anything new. The new features, however, are well worth learning and easy enough.

I bought into CS6 when it was announced it would be the last you could own and have used it since. However recently I acquired a newer Imac so my guy cloned the program unto the newer unit. That's when the trouble started. It wouldn't function, so I inquired. I was then told I had bought an illegal version of it--from a reseller, although I did receive upgrades early on and was still on their email program. I then was offered a package for the $10 with two months free. So I went that way after a bit of misunderstanding--I went with the system but didn't really receive any confirmation. But it's working now but I haven't realized any difference either. Perhaps I'm in the Twilight Zone!

Like a lot of people I was reluctant to commit to a monthly expense although I used LR and PS a lot. I did it about a year after they started and I haven't regretted it. The $9.99/month + sales tax is on a credit card and I don't notice it. My credit card bill overwhelms it and there are a lot of things on that bill that are less useful than LR/PS to me. I spend more on impulse purchases than that.

99.996% of my photos go into LR and the keepers stay there in the catalog*, which is where I can look for things. LR is a pretty good editor (there are probably better ones out there) but the handshaking between LR and PS produces a system that's hard to beat. And if you have another program you like, you can probably interface that to LR also.

*When I take blank wall shots to check for sensor dust, those photos don't go into the catalog.

I just recently went to the cc photoshop subscription and, today, for the first time did some prints. I did not like the limited printing options that I had compared to CS6, in terms of paper selections and other options that I feel affect the quality and look of the print. I have not had time to follow up.
In terms of usability, there are a couple of minor changes that I have gotten used to and it operates quickly and with no problems to date.

Tks everyone. The positives have overwhelmed the one or two neg comments. My destiny now is to give the test version a ride and see if I can stay in the saddle. Tks ag’in!
