I didn't want to pay for a subscription service, but I am now glad that I did. I spend less now on the subscription than buying an update every three years used to cost. Plus I don't have to wait for new features like I used to by waiting to update every three years.

I totally agree and that $10 monthly fee when compared to other subscriptions like Sirius Radio or Netflix, and the return of each, is one hell of a bargain.

People who have it, like it. People who don't have also seem to be satisfied. If you don't mind the cost, you will have LR and PS with all current updates. I have LR6 and PS6, and I don't plan to go the subscription route.

I've been using Photoshop since the dinosaurs roamed the earth. The interface hasn't changed much, but internal improvements have made it faster, more capable of dealing with large files, content aware operations are great, excellent spot healing tool, masking is vastly improved, and so on.

The best parts is not having to wait for updates and Lightroom. CC represents the very best of what is out there, a complete photo editing solution.

BTW, before Photoshop I used this:

Tks Gene51, your comment will weigh on my decision.

Btw, you should read TonyBotโ€™s comment (above) regarding exaggeration. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž

Dean,
I do not think the transition from your version of PS to the subscription will be overwhelming. There is a free 7 Day trial period.

I've been a subscriber since its inception in 2013. No regrets. (Yes, it does cost me $10 a month).

I moved from CS4 to the subscription a few months ago when I got a new computer. I was able to do all the things I could do before, although some were a little different, the learning curve wasn't bad. The new feature I like the most is Content Aware. The subscription does cost less than I spent in the past buying and upgrading PS.

Do you think the massive amount of $$$ is going to stop you from doing what you want to do??

I've been on the 10 bucks a month plan since it was announced. And, have never looked back. When I need to do something, on a still photo or a piece of video, the tools are there with Photoshop. When someone posts about a new feature I know it's already there for me.
Don't care for the Subscription plan BUT it's a win-win for me and for Adobe.

Curious to hear of experiences of moving from later issues of PS to the newer versions on the subscription service. Glad you did/Wish you had stayed on the old sys.

I am on a Mac running latest version of Mojave. Sooner or later us older version users are gonna fall over the cliff of antiquity.

Was there much of a learning curve when you moved? Major upgrades in the sys that you found useful?

I am a long-time user of PS, going way back to abt the 17th century as I recall. Way before Mathue Braidley started snapping them off.

My main concern is, โ€œDo I want to take on another difficult learning task, just to pick up minor functional upgrades, perhaps stuff I would rarely take advantage of.โ€

โ€˜Preciate all yโ€™all giving positive advice (as someone here explained recently, โ€œyโ€™allโ€ is singular, โ€œall yโ€™allโ€ is plural.) Us good โ€˜ole boys who grew up, (supposedly grew up) in Georgia understand the vernacular very well.
Curious to hear of experiences of moving from late... (show quote)

(1) Not sure what you mean, by newer versions of the subscription, there is only one version of the subscription and it's always current.
I am happy with the subscription because it's cheaper and I always have the latest software updates immediately available.

(2) Not much of a learning curve if you already know the software (PS, LR, Bridge). If you don't know the software then there is a learning curve.

(3) If you know PS then there won't be much of a learning curve.

Do you know anyone who has a subscription, or perhaps a local school or library where you can go and try it? That would be a good way for you to decide.

Thanks everyone for your input. Gonna ck out the trial version on my nxt set and go from there. Since I have been a user from the early days, transition should be relatively painless, according to all your comments. If you are wrong, gonna come getcha! ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜Ž Tks again.

Switching to the subscription model, about 5 years ago, was one of my best decisions. For less than the monthly cost of a couple cups of Starbucks coffee, I always have the latest along with great support. I've used Photoshop forever, but started with Lightroom when I made the switch. My entire PP process is smoother, easier, better, faster and much less stressful. Best of luck.
