I don’t mean to be pushy on this cjc2, but there are only 1,440 minutes in a day. If you shoot 5,000 photos in a session, and work a 12 hour day, you would have to review approximately seven shots each minute. And that is just to review. Download to your computer surely takes couple hours, especially if you are a raw shooter. When do you have time to process that 100-200 saved images? I’m having a difficult time digesting your numbers.

Sorry for letting this diverge from subj or my orig post.

I don't usually shoot that many but I have come back from a shoot with 500-800 shots. Downloading with a reasonably fast card reader takes less than 10 minutes (all raw). I can zip through the shots in less than a half hour for the initial triage. I probably select 20% for further investigation. The real time sink is taking the shots deemed worthy of keeping and adding keywords to them. Generic keywords for the shoot go onto the shots at import time, but I also add names to the keywords. My keeper rate is on the order of 10-15%. Shoots of this size for me are only 5-6 per year so for me it's not a really large load.

Sounds doable. I take it that your earlier statement that you come back with “5000+” images was a misstatement.

I am looking at moving on from Aperture and contacted Affinity with questions, but they cautioned that it is not a DAM (Digital Asset Mgr.) like Aperture. To you who are using Affinity, what DAM do you use? LR? .....

Just trying again to get an answer from Affinity users as to what DAM you use. Some have suggested Apple Photos, but Apple are even dumbing that down now, e.g. it no longer has an export to Flickr button.

The 5000+ was cjc2. My max is around 800.
I was just pointing out that some of your time estimates were too large.

Yes you do have your wires crossed. You also, apparently, are not a professional sports shooter with a very busy seasonal schedule. Thankfully, this is not on a daily basis, but it does happen. Let's say I start with a HS soccer game and shoot the first at 12:00 with the middle school. The second game starts at 2:00 and it's the JV game. Followed at 4:00 with the varsity. Or some such schedule. If I'm shooting both schools, I can easily exceed 1,500 shots per game as my job is to get as many of the players as possible. That comes to about six hours of shooting. I can EASILY cull (select my good shots) from 1500-2000 images within an hour. I use Lightroom Classic exclusively on an iMac Pro with Thunderbolt 3 drives, a Palette Gear controller and XQD cards that allow a very fast workflow. My first go yields the images I will further process. I use a lot of Lightroom's global settings to complete my editing task. If I've done a good job in the field, another half hour or so. In total, shooting included, I will spend about ten hours (or less) in that scenario. If there's something you still don't understand, or believe, so be it! May I also point out that YOUR posts are also off topic. Best of luck.

cjc2, in no way do I challenge your work ethic. However, you stated in an earlier post that at times you shoot “5000+” images a day. Do the math. There are 1440 minutes in any given day (excepting when time seasons change), and if you divide 5000 by 1440, you would have to look at 3.4722 images each minute for the entire day, more than that when you deduct time for downloading, etc. Some “nose to the grindstone” here, no doubt.

Btw, I am not a professional sports photog, but I do have a rudimentary understanding of seventh grade arithmetic, and I have recently learned to tell time.

My question is, “How long can you maintain a 24/hour a day workload?” Just asking.

Certainly not every day. I've never timed myself, except in hours. In my 'culling' step, I go through much more than 3 images a second (CORRECTION *** many more than 3 per MINUTE ***). Next time I have a busy day, you're invited to watch.

I will say that that rate is possible. My rate is probably 1-2 images per second but I don't do really large image sets.

Man, this reads as if you are questioning my mental faculties. Nah, a nice gentleman Hogger would not impugn another fellow Hogger. Or would he? Stay tuned Hoggers.
