Curious to hear of experiences of moving from later issues of PS to the newer versions on the subscription service. Glad you did/Wish you had stayed on the old sys.

I am on a Mac running latest version of Mojave. Sooner or later us older version users are gonna fall over the cliff of antiquity.

Was there much of a learning curve when you moved? Major upgrades in the sys that you found useful?

I am a long-time user of PS, going way back to abt the 17th century as I recall. Way before Mathue Braidley started snapping them off.

My main concern is, “Do I want to take on another difficult learning task, just to pick up minor functional upgrades, perhaps stuff I would rarely take advantage of.”

‘Preciate all y’all giving positive advice (as someone here explained recently, “y’all” is singular, “all y’all” is plural.) Us good ‘ole boys who grew up, (supposedly grew up) in Georgia understand the vernacular very well.

If you've been using PS since the 17th century (I've told you a million times not to exaggerate!) you'll have little problem. It is a lot more robust, but the general idea is exactly the same.

Well I have migrated through the PS series on through subscription and have never regretted my course of action. I do not know what you consider minor functional upgrades, but for me the differences are major rather than minor vs. PS6. I can't think of anything I had to change my approach to, except adding a Wacom Intuous. Just learning new tools and techniques as I try to get better.

I've been using Photoshop since the dinosaurs roamed the earth. The interface hasn't changed much, but internal improvements have made it faster, more capable of dealing with large files, content aware operations are great, excellent spot healing tool, masking is vastly improved, and so on.

The best parts is not having to wait for updates and Lightroom. CC represents the very best of what is out there, a complete photo editing solution.

BTW, before Photoshop I used this:

At times I do use Photoshop. Not before i steel myself with a nice glass of Single Malt. It is without a doubt an excellent program. I constantly have to reference how to books or tutorials.
I do not use it enough for the steps to the end result are intuitive. The things you can do are almost endless. Like all things the more you use the program it becomes easier. The result is exactly what you would hope for. At this point LR is my go to weapon of choice and of course a glass of Single Malt.

I didn't want to pay for a subscription service, but I am now glad that I did. I spend less now on the subscription than buying an update every three years used to cost. Plus I don't have to wait for new features like I used to by waiting to update every three years.

i'm glad i made the switch a few months ago. well worth the $10 per month. for many of the reasons as previously posted, plus you get adobe portfolio tossed in like croutons on a tasty salad. it is basic web hosting, and easy to fiddle around w/your website. since it's adobe, it plays well w/LR and makes a seamless "upload" from LR to displaying photos on your website.

Dean,
I do not think the transition from your version of PS to the subscription will be overwhelming. There is a free 7 Day trial period.
https://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/free-trial-download.html?sdid=JRSIL&mv=search&s_kwcid=AL!3085!10!78958751834407!20541713045&ef_id=XEnHQQAAAFrciVKl:20190729125044:s

Good luck,
Mark

I doubt you’ll have any issues with the transition, just more fun tools to use! Also, if you upgrade your gear you’ll still be able to use it.

Before you commit to the subscription, I'd strongly recommend you try "Affinity" with its 30 day free trial. Affinity does virtually everything PS does - and it costs you US $50 - ONCE! And that includes regular upgrades that are free. It is similar in structure to PS so your prior experience will not be lost.
Cheers
