Buck up, Chief, you may be down but you're certainly not out, work your other projects and learn some new photography techniques so you'll be even better and bolder when you're cleared for duty!

I'm scheduled for surgery next week for a complete separation of my Achilles tendon in my left ankle. My son says that's what happens when a 65 year old guy spends his time chasing around and photographing big Alaska Brown Bears instead of playing chess.
Doc says it will be a three month recovery. No Alaska trip for me this year It was going to be a great one with a sister, 2 brothers and a sister-in-law.
I have had a bunch of family photos (a couple hundred) I've been planning to photo-copy for more than a year. What better project to work on with 3 months on the sidelines staring me in the face?
I just received a photo-copy set up with LED lights from B&H. Who knew it would be that expensive?. So between the copy project and hassling all my UHH on-line buds, I think I will be able to keep busy.
I'll let you all know how it comes out.
I'm scheduled for surgery next week for a complete... (show quote)

Had that surgery when I was a kid after stepping on a broken bottle in a lake..... Big toe has never been the same, but mine came after an infection and in the time waiting for the infection to clear the tendon had formed a ball inside my foot and had to be spliced.... hopefully yours will not be as rough as mine was.

Yes, I can relate to a degree. I will be 73 in July, am doing Physical Therapy for two discs in my back. and wearing a knee support for what I think are torn ligaments. My thanks to the man who gave his riding lawn mower away because he could not get it started. I cleaned some wires put gas in it and wala it works. Hope you have a speedy and complete recovery.

Wishing you a speedy and pain-free recovery. As others here have said, your Physical Therapy can make all the difference.

I see you're a full-timer, so you're surrounded by the best people in the world...other campers. I went that route for over 22 years, so I experienced the joys you have. Hope your recovery is a good one, and get back on the road again soon. djt

Thanks very much!. Yes, we've been full timing for 14 years so far. Can't imagine a better lifestyle.

Best wishes!!! I had surgery for a partial ruptured Achilles tendon in late April of last year. Crutches of a walker for three weeks, then a hard cast and a scooter for three more. Pay close attention to rehab. At 75, then, I found it was slow to build up muscles in my calf. I have been working on it since then and finally feel up to my annual Glacier trip and the associated back country hiking. I will do some hiking in Grand Teton and here in Idaho, to test my recovery.

Don't get discouraged. You will heal and have good stuff to entertain you during recovery. I took the time to acquire and learn Luminar. I am sure you will find interesting things to do.

I just had that done 3 months ago. Wear the boot they give you religiously for two months and you're good to go. Good luck!

Thank You. I got a jump start on the boot. I was already on the boot for 3 weeks to prevent what eventually happened. I was out of the boot for one week when the final injury occurred.

I've been out almost 2 months after left knee total replacement. The doctors do their thing one day and all the rest is Mr. or Mrs Satan as I call them. (Therapists) Satan is the one that will get you back up and going.
Do ALL the exercises as when you go to therapy,,,, they can tell if you have.

Hope all goes well. Had mine done 4-15 son in law had his done 5-13 (CPO retired)

Recovery from Achilles repair: no time to be a hero and best to practice RICE.... rest, ice, compression and elevation. Your surgeon will fine tune that for you. I pushed too hard on recovery from two knee replacements, thinking I was tougher than everyone else. Good luck!

From someone a bit older, tell your son to go hug a brown bear. You've got at least 20 more Summers of travel! And in addition to the great projects you've mentioned, use the time to explore around your base, do more macro, etc.
In other words, after this acute issue is resolved, have a great Summer and many more.

Thanks very much. My son was just trying to lighten the load a bit. He's a good guy...most of the time
