Chief...tell you son to get in line.....Achilles rupture can happen stepping down from the curb onto the street. It has nothing to do with your age. It could happen to him! Mine occurred running from 1st to home (3rd-home) at Yankee Fantasy Camp. I was 50. My son and wife gave me such sh..t about not being in shape. Until, he had a friend who just got out of a cab and BOOM! 28 year old stud.
My recovery went great. 1 month in the cast. 1 month in the boot. Didn't need PT. You will do great. And, having a little time to do stuff that you would not normally do is not so bad. Don't let it hold you back. Best.

I'm scheduled for surgery next week for a complete separation of my Achilles tendon in my left ankle. My son says that's what happens when a 65 year old guy spends his time chasing around and photographing big Alaska Brown Bears instead of playing chess.
Doc says it will be a three month recovery. No Alaska trip for me this year
It was going to be a great one with a sister, 2 brothers and a sister-in-law.
I have had a bunch of family photos (a couple hundred) I've been planning to photo-copy for more than a year. What better project to work on with 3 months on the sidelines staring me in the face?
I just received a photo-copy set up with LED lights from B&H. Who knew it would be that expensive?. So between the copy project and hassling all my UHH on-line buds, I think I will be able to keep busy.
I'll let you all know how it comes out.

I just had that done 3 months ago. Wear the boot they give you religiously for two months and you're good to go. Good luck!

I quit playing chess about 60 years ago. Too much stress.
Then I started my own business to get the stress back.
Hang in there, there's always next year.
Best wishes for speedy recovery !!! Make sure you follow rehab therapy diligently. Shang
From someone a bit older, tell your son to go hug a brown bear. You've got at least 20 more Summers of travel! And in addition to the great projects you've mentioned, use the time to explore around your base, do more macro, etc.
In other words, after this acute issue is resolved, have a great Summer and many more.
Good luck on your surgery, Chief and a speedy recovery.
Hoping that the medical staff tend on you well.
Do your physical therapy. It hurts but it works.
