Retired CPO Down and out for Three Months

Retired CPO Loc: Travel full time in an RV

I'm scheduled for surgery next week for a complete separation of my Achilles tendon in my left ankle. My son says that's what happens when a 65 year old guy spends his time chasing around and photographing big Alaska Brown Bears instead of playing chess.
Doc says it will be a three month recovery. No Alaska trip for me this year It was going to be a great one with a sister, 2 brothers and a sister-in-law.
I have had a bunch of family photos (a couple hundred) I've been planning to photo-copy for more than a year. What better project to work on with 3 months on the sidelines staring me in the face?
I just received a photo-copy set up with LED lights from B&H. Who knew it would be that expensive?. So between the copy project and hassling all my UHH on-line buds, I think I will be able to keep busy.
I'll let you all know how it comes out.

You've got my prayers and thoughts for a complication free recovery. My advice is consider your physical therapist as your best friend for the next 3 or more months.

You have a good attitude Chief. That should go a long way to a speedy recovery. Not too speedy though or you won't finish copying all the photos.

Good Luck!

Best wishes with your surgery Chief. It ain’t the end of the world...a few years ago I canceled a trip to Monument Valley, Antelope Canyon and Grand Canyon to have heart surgery...turned out I’m still alive and still have the 5DSr I bought for the trip...my favorite camera. You’ll be back shooting soon and have the pressure of archiving all those family photos off your back.

Best of luck. I had this surgery about 2 years ago, also on my left Achilles. No weight bearing for 30 days but take solace in that if you have a car with an automatic you can still drive yourself around. After about 8 weeks as good or better than new. Take care.

Bummer! Hope recovery goes fast but don't rush it. Load-bearing joints need TLC so let your physical therapist be your best friend, and do all your home exercises. Amazing how well the body heals with the right guidance.
Meanwhile, copy away! At least you have a project to keep you busy!

God willing, this too shall pass. It's always been my goal to travel in an rv, you'll be back at it before you know it.

Best wishes to you, Chief. Listen to your doctor and therapist and "don't do nuthin' stupid"! Your photo copying sounds like a good project. I'm spending a lot of time scanning old negatives and find it very rewarding. Good luck to you!
