Any single-function kitchen device is a space-waster in a home kitchen. I haven't had a toaster in over 50 years. Toaster ovens are so much more useful...toast, bake, even broil.
My only problem is my current years-old Black & Decker is a verrrrry slow to toast and bake. Waiting for it to die so I can get a new one!

Returning to the days of my boyhood, we used to make what we called Sweeney toast. Take a fork and spear the bread then hold it over the open flame on a gas range. You turn as needed and it gives a different flavor, kind of gassy and crispy
LOL

I checked on this review also. The Dash Clear View has the added advantage of periodically throwing the toast on the counter or the floor. That could be entertaining.

I'm chuckling as I write this reply, as I bought one of those for my RV and it launched my toast into the sunny side up eggs I was cooking on the stove. Not a toaster I would recommend as it took too long and toasted unevenly.

Then you roast a slice of bologna the same way and you can have a nice hot bologna sandwich!

I did an internet search on "stove top toaster" and turned up a bunch of simple toasters. This Brustolina seems to be a favorite!

Since Munsey Products has gone out of business thanks to Wal Mart and the Chinese I say Sunbeam is a good company to buy from.

After reading the extensive responses to Jerry's quest for a new stove, I figured I'd ask a similar, if more mundane, question.

What's a good toaster? In the past 5 years, I've been through a mid-priced Cuisinart & KitchenAid, I even tried a cheapie Proctor Silex and finally a Black & Decker Toaster-Oven. Each was either slow as hell or didn't toast one side the same as the other. I'd prefer a 4-slice but it's not critical. However, it has to be at least a little faster than any of mine (5 minutes for a single slice on some) and has to brown both sides evenly. Is this so hard to accomplish? I swear, we've been making windshield wipers and toasters for 125 years and we still don't seem able to make a version of either that works well...or very long.

The best toaster I have ever used came from depositing $100,000 on a 6 month Money Market T-Bill at BofA. No brand name. Depending on the quality of bread inserted it worked quite well. It was the late 70's and the T-bill rate was 14% over 6 months.

Good luck with the toaster quest. My wife and I experienced a similar frustration looking for a good can opener. Tried 'em all until we came upon an old hand driven opener in a thrift shop. It is unreal how companies that claim to top of the line - and cost - now build crap that doesn't work well or last. !@#$!

IKEA has decent can openers, garlic presses, and veggie peelers, and they won't set you back like going to a specialty cooking shop.

Don't use a toaster. I have a grill in my cooktop. I grill bread. But I do have a Cuisinart toaster.

The best coffee I've had for a long time, bought the Gaggia Brera Super Automatic Espresso Machine put beans in top water in and brewed great coffee. There may be better but this with it's faults (drips water on the counter sometimes) is good enough for me.

Toaster science seems to have taken a step forward into the unreliable zone. I was going to say a step backward, but then realized I haven't had one I really liked until the last buy. We now have a Krups 2 slice that works pretty well, but like others went through 3 different brands of unhappiness, did similar with coffee makers till settling on our current Mr.Coffee Stainless Steel carafe model, like it too. We didn't go down the Pod path, never tasted a good cup from those, not anywhere close to our fresh ground fresh brewed happiness.

Saw this on an Australian TV program, Paul Hogan making toast he says all you need is a nail on the wall and a plumbers blow torch. You stick the bread on the nail light the torch and have at it.

I guess he's pretty good with that blow torch if he can toast the bread without burning the wall.
