Never would have guessed that a box or a tub would attract a wild cat, I know domestic cats can’t resist a box of any type. Excellent series thanks for sharing an helping to protect your local wildlife.

The more I see of bobcats that don't know they're being watched, the more they seem like my own cats--including one that bombed its own video by sitting down in front of the camera to pose with one hind leg high in the air to clean under its tail. This summer was kind of tough for the animals, very hot with late rains and dwindling water sources, so I continued with the water hauling longer than usual (and now I'm sick of it).

Smart cat! (A less-than might have gotten the drink after the bath. : ) Excellent sequence, great captures!

I'm fairly certain the tub was empty by the time the bobcat played in it, but regardless it's probably a smart cat. It is quite rare for me to get more than a fleeting look at a bobcat, but this character triggered two videos, the second quite long, so it was a great treat for me.

What a great and fun sequence of images. He certainly seemed to enjoy the experience.

That's one of the greatest rewards of my trail cam hobby, seeing the otherwise hidden behavior of wild animals and realizing how playful and curious they are (though I wish the bears would tone it down). Seeing this cat's response to the squirrel who was badgering it was priceless. Thank you for commenting.

Just love those cats. I can't get enough of them. Thanks for sharing these wonderful photos.

You are quite welcome, and I hope to have more to share. I've been fortunate to get lots of bobcats on my cameras lately--I can't get enough of them either. Squirrels, too much.

Wow! That's interesting!

It's definitely not what I would have expected. People sometimes scold me by "meddling" with the natural state of things (yawn) even while they feed the deer in their own yards (and then wonder why they get mountain lions). I'm grateful that New Mexico finally banned trapping on most public lands, though this is a state that prides itself on its outlaw mentality and the practice will continue as long as people can get away with it. I'll step off my soapbox now...

You're welcome, and revealing is a good word. It is rare to actually see a bobcat in the wild, though they're not rare and I'm not sure how elusive they really are--they are simply silent and well-hidden. They'd rather do the watching.

I have several cameras of varying ages and quality, but this is the best. These images were cropped quite a bit. I'll be curious to see if this nut job returns--lately I have been getting a lot of bobcat videos, and some of them seem to be patrolling their territory rather than simply passing through.

Nice shots. I'm a fan of cats large and small.

Me too. And from what I witness among the bobcats and mountain lions I get on my cameras, they all act the same!

Cats will be cats! Give a box and they are compelled to get into it.

Cats will be cats! S/He behaved just like my cat did, only he liked to climb into the bathroom sink! This is an amazing sequence of images. Great going.

I just happened to have new material to add to this theme, as of yesterday. This is possibly the most ridiculous sequence I have caught on a trail camera, and I had a hard time narrowing the frames down to ten to share with you. As many of you already know, the tub is for water for my wildlife friends, and I have three of them in different spots. Each only holds about three gallons and I try to keep them supplied, though I've fallen down on the job lately (literally, and ended up with a fresh shoulder injury). The green cable locks the tub in place so that bears can't steal them, which they otherwise most certainly would. The cable does not, however, keep bears from dumping the water as they play in it.

Which was good news for this bobcat, who evidently needed a dry bath and its own tub time. After some frustrating bear experiences lately, including a camera that had been swiveled 180 degrees and another that had been literally ripped off a tree--a postage stamp sized hunk of the camera was still attached to the strap around the tree trunk with the rest of it on the ground--I needed some success, and a good laugh. These videos provided both. The whole time the bobcat was in the tub a squirrel scolded it hysterically from overhead, which explains the upward gazes. I'm not sure I've ever seen any cat look quite so pleased with itself.

I hope you enjoy these snapshots from the natural world as much as I do.
