I just happened to have new material to add to this theme, as of yesterday. This is possibly the most ridiculous sequence I have caught on a trail camera, and I had a hard time narrowing the frames down to ten to share with you. As many of you already know, the tub is for water for my wildlife friends, and I have three of them in different spots. Each only holds about three gallons and I try to keep them supplied, though I've fallen down on the job lately (literally, and ended up with a fresh shoulder injury). The green cable locks the tub in place so that bears can't steal them, which they otherwise most certainly would. The cable does not, however, keep bears from dumping the water as they play in it.

Which was good news for this bobcat, who evidently needed a dry bath and its own tub time. After some frustrating bear experiences lately, including a camera that had been swiveled 180 degrees and another that had been literally ripped off a tree--a postage stamp sized hunk of the camera was still attached to the strap around the tree trunk with the rest of it on the ground--I needed some success, and a good laugh. These videos provided both. The whole time the bobcat was in the tub a squirrel scolded it hysterically from overhead, which explains the upward gazes. I'm not sure I've ever seen any cat look quite so pleased with itself.

I hope you enjoy these snapshots from the natural world as much as I do.

Never would have guessed that a box or a tub would attract a wild cat, I know domestic cats can’t resist a box of any type. Excellent series thanks for sharing an helping to protect your local wildlife.

Congratulations, SWFeral!!! Isn't it great when a plan comes together?!

Yes it is, though this wasn't the outcome I'd expected! I never thought my tub would provide a bobcat's enrichment session. But I'll take it. Thanks for looking.

Ha. If the kitty returns it will find the tub full of water again, so we'll see how that goes.

It's pretty darn cute all right, even surpassing some of the bear cubs. I consider it a must-see for anyone, especially those who fear wild animals and think all they do is prowl around looking for things to kill.

I think the tub was dry by then; in a previous video where a bear cub was playing with the camera, you could see the mother in the background lifting one side of the tub to drain the water which then swirled around her feet and doubtless felt good. The tub has since been filled. But I think bobcats are like domestic cats and will avoid water--I have videos showing them tiptoeing over logs to avoid getting their feet wet.
