Not to mention a camera catching fire and burning down the house, or exploding in your face. Not worth a 25 cent thermistor.

Υou forgot to mention a nuclear explosion and burning down NY city!

While waiting on Z9 Nikon batteries, bought Kaster, got 2+ charger for ~$50 & we all know what the Nikon batteries cost. I find off brand do not give as many images , per charge as OEM. Wonder if nikon is putting in the " Not up to spec" in their firmware updates for Z9 ?

Well, gee! This, then, gets to the point of this whole thread..."If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Don't install any new Firmware updates if your camera is presently working fine...unless, of course, you wish to incur the wrath of the battery gods.

The original post on the matter of Nikon limiting the use of 3rd party batteries has gone on for 11 pages and has drifted way off topic.

NikonRumors today has an article on the issue which contains new info. The following is an image reportedly from a Z8 with a 3rd party battery installed:

The article also states that the last firmware update for the following cameras
will result in the same message being displayed if 3rd party batteries are used: D3100, D3200, D5100, D5200 and P7700.
The original post on the matter of Nikon limiting ... (show quote)

As an aside, why spend $$$ on camera gear and then get cheap with the batteries?

We have plain dictatorship by the big companies. The same with the ink of the printers. Not to mention that their ink cartridges get emptied with mimimum printing and their price is skyrocketing. Shame!

Some updates repair, and some updates add. I'd like to know what I'm getting before I update. Do you think Nikon would tell us if an update forces us to buy their batteries?

It's bound to happen on UHH with any topic where two or more opinions can form. Mac vs PC, raw vs jpeg, auto-iso vs manual, and of course OEM vs aftermarket ___(Fill in the blank), the list goes on.

These battery posts are driving me nuts...I just don't understand why people who have at least $5,000 invested in a current Z Nikon body and a Z lens or two, are so concerned about saving a few bucks on a third party battery. Same argument carried over from DSLR cameras. After I had several bad experiences with Watson batteries and chargers, I said never again will a Non Nikon product touch my Nikon bodies, to include lenses. Never looked back.

Why why would I take a photo of a swollen battery that occurred 5 years ago,
ARE YOU CALLING ME A LIAR? Why would I possible make something like this up. I've repeated the exact same thing in every thread about non oem batteries. I have nothing to gain. I wanted to share my experience.
