Mazal tov, Mike. Use it in good health. Now let's see some pics.
You know, I pulled it out of the box, put in on the D 7150 and went out to the yard.
I thought that I had made a serious mistake. It started hunting for focus and I began to wonder what what wrong with the lens. A bit of research told me that the minimum focus distance is about 6 feet.
Oops, went back outside and tried something farther away. It locked on like a dog on a medium-rare steak.
I need some more time with it. Our yard still has way too much brown in it...
Oh it’s OK. You’ll enjoy it. I don’t own that one but its predecessor the 80-200 f2.8D push pull. It is decades olds now and it is very satisfying. I suspect you’re going to wind up quite satisfied with mine’s successor. Have fun.
Awesome! I opted for the superb f/4 version.
I have an 80-200 f/2.8 IF so I am happy and the 28-70 f/2.8 as well as the 17-35 f/2.8, all Nikon. I know they're not the latest, but until I become a real photographer these will have to do.

That is one fine lens. Enjoy. It will change how you photograph.
This topic concerns a syndrome! A syndrome is defined as a physical or mental disease. Perhaps those who do not or did not understand this should not castigate those who do understand and replied accordingly.

I bought one a couple of years back when Nikon ran a sale with $450.00 off. Still cost 2 grand but it is my mack daddy lens.
Nikon USA is having a refurb sale for Memorial Day. It's under $1700 plus tax at checkout. (The Z version is more.)
I presently shoot with a Z6 and have 4 Z lenses, the longest being the 105mm, f/2.8 macro. Do I need anything else? No, but do I want some new equipment and can I afford to buy it are the questions to pose? I would love to upgrade the camera to the Z8, just because. From a technical standpoint and given the type of photography that I do, it makes no sense, financially or artistically. Oh, but the lure of new equipment is energizing. I will resist and am anxiously awaiting the Nikon-Tamron 70-180 mm lens, announced in 2022 but not yet released. 180 would be my longest lens, since I don't shoot birds, either with a camera or a rifle; 180 would be ideal for me.
Does anyone have an insight into when this lens will be available for purchase?
Thank you, I believe that I will and for many years to come.

It's big enough to do what I need it to Mr Spock,

Enjoy! That should get you the reach you need!
I am hoping. Before I call it quits at the "day job" I would like the 10-24 mm f 2.8, a micro lens (TBD), and maybe a teleconverter.
WE shall see. Thanks for the encouragement.
