That is exactly what Canikon and others are doing - and very few of their products are used by REAL photographers = only by label worshipers and posers.
DO tell? And here along I thought buying a lens you don't have, in a focal length to fit an identified need, was simply good planning. But what do I know? I'm just a stupid American.

Well if what you say is indeed the case then I wish to personally thank the label worshipers and posers for helping to keep Canikon in business.

Dean, check the reply on page 6. It will be one of, if not the first.

You have some nice glass there. Nikon is, first and foremost, an optics company so make pretty with what you have and stop worrying about whether it is the latest and greatest.

If it does what you need and want, then what else could you possibly be looking for? With that said, go make some images.

Thank you, I am aware of the history of Nikon and figured that the glass was the most important part of a camera system back in the days of film. The box that holds the film and lens is important to the extent of having control of the light exposure time and prevention of light leaks, but the glass is vital. The same still holds true in the age of digital sensors.

Those are a few of many lenses in my possession all of which have served me well, but they are my magic threesome. They prove to me every time I use them that I really badly need to improve my photography lack of skills.

You know, my "keeping up with the Jones's" idea only extends so far and I never have been opposed to anything because of its age.

In the last 15-ish years I have owned a D 5000, a D 7100, and a D 750. The first two were purchased as refurbs and the 750 was purchased (gently used) from a dear friend to fund the purchase of a Z7. All of these cameras are still alive and well although I gave the D 5000 to my oldest son some years ago.

Also, there is only one lens out of the six that I currently have that was purchased new. It was an 18-55mm VRII whose predecessor was destroyed when the D 7100 took a four foot fall in St. Thomas.

Makes sense to me. The only body I have that was purchased new is a Nikon F Photomic I bought in 1970. Lightly used works for me too. Have fun.

You can take the boy out of California but you can't take California out of the boy. I enjoy that fact that I can reduce, reuse, and recycle and only people that have more money than brains pay full retail just to say that they did. I have more toys to acquire. lol
You know, my "keeping up with the Jones's&quo... (show quote)

I’m with you on purchasing lightly used, properly working items. Saves a ton.

You'll get more satisfaction from continuing to produce better pics from the gear you know than those who suffer from the GAS mentality.

I don't think Americans are stupid - what Americans have achieved in a couple of hundred years is phenomenal.
The circumstance you describe is not GAS, but a reasonable and justifiable purchase.
My definition of GAS is a mental state of want in order to satisfy an obscure desire, and is world wide.
This topic was / is not mine, but I do like discussion.

Thank you for the clarification on the purchase and GAS. For what it is worth I think Americans are stupid sometimes but that is another topic not and for here.

Some years ago I purchased a 10-24mm for my D 7100. The asking price for a new one on sites like Adorama and B & H was just under one thousand dollars. I found one on Ebay for $350.00 with nary a scratch.

It was my first taste of what good glass does for your IQ and I haven't looked back. These days I define a need and start my search there. I am pretty patient and will sit on the idea until I find the item for a price that I am willing to part with.

So far I have been really pleased with my purchases.

Also not necessarily off the mark Bob, but that is another post.
