With all these lenses being discontinued just what do they plan to replace them with?

Reeeeeally ???? Same thing that they have always replaced them with, year after year, decade after decade.

It will probably make the existing F mount Nikon lenses stabilize in value. In the future they may rise in value, especially for IR photographers, as the hot spots in the S-Mount Nikon lenses are really prominent.

So when Im dumping old SLR lenses I should charge more $$ if the buyer is shooting IR. Thanks for the heads up.

We mostly already agree that for IR conversion EVFs are preferable to SLRs for their viewing and focusing abilities, but you have pointed to another reason to choose EVFs for IR conversion. EVFs accept almost any lens from any era so that IR shooters can avoid troublesome lenses yet still have a vast selection of lenses available.

Cheers and best to you.

So, does this mean these lenses will sell off at a bargain price, or will the prices increase as they become harder to find?

Always difficult (to predict) the future.

One can only guess but my guess’s are “yes” and “yes”.

“Bargains” have been available for years. At one time, Pentax Takumars were as good as one could get, but I have spent under $100 a piece for mine for at least the last 10 years.

With more people moving over to mirrorless the market will be awash with second-hand DSLR optics.

Great! I was able to buy recently from a lifestyle and wedding photographer his whole outfit of 2 pristine Nikon D750s, 8 Nikkor lenses including 2/3 of the "Holy Trinity," a couple of Nikon speedlights, accessories including a bunch of batteries and 2 Arca-Swiss mounting brackets plus a few other odds and ends through NYC Craigslist. The package price was $2600; he was using the money to help buy a Fuji medium format camera and lenses.

Be well! Ed

Well ... temporarily.
120 film gave way to 35mm.
Film gave way to DSLRs.
DSLR cameras are giving way to mirrorless,
at the same time *both* giving way to iPhones.
Even now, I don't need a camera/cash/credit cards/IDs;
I got my phone.
James T Kirk would be envious!

Not me - I’ll never be happy without ILC.
I proved that when my first digital camera was a “compact” - I was back to the inflexible days when I had a rangefinder camera - no way to get something ‘longer’. Now I would be thrilled if Pentax would revive the “Q” - my Q-7 has a 1/1.7” sensor, which makes it a ‘3X crop’ camera compared to a “APS-C” camera; a 150mm lens gives me the same view as a 450mm lens would give on a “APS-C” camera. It is a MILC without a viewfinder - but I find that a Hoodman makes it useable. It is a sufficiently light camera for me to carry when on bird walks with my wife; and no need for it to receive photo calls; I don’t want to be in touch when we’re out.

I went out today; unfortunately, I didn’t take my telephoto lens - I saw some squirrels ‘playing’, but too far for my camera to capture.

The scariest moment is just before you buy a mirrorless camera.

Only if ‘reality’ requires lugging lots of weight.

I maybe possibly heartily agree ... or not.
