I often wonder what became of the Skyraider that sat near base headquarters at Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai AFB at the end of our presence there. It was entitled "Spirit of America" and it would be a shame had it just been torn apart for the metal. Anybody know?

Great set, very well shot!! Thanks for taking me back, seeing this "R" model in full glory was a real treat! It's been 30 years since I've seen a boom down in refueling position, great catch!

Nice photos.
I got a ride in a KC-135 from Grissom AFB out over Arizona and back doing refueling practice runs while I was teaching off-campus classes for Ball State University at the base probably 25 years ago (before it was deactivated). Great trip. I got to ride in front with the pilot, etc., and in the back with the refueling operator.
This was before my digital days, but I have some great negatives from that trip tucked away somewhere.
I got a ride in a KC-135 from Grissom AFB out over Arizona and back doing refueling practice runs while I was teaching off-campus classes for Ball State University at the base probably 25 years ago (before it was deactivated). Great trip. I got to ride in front with the pilot, etc., and in the back with the refueling operator.

I got a chance to ride from Okinawa to the Phillipines back in the 80's. Minolta XG-1. No talent. Just held the camera above the boomers head:

Great photos. I flew on a KC135 from Utah in 1996 to New York when I went to the International Military Ski Championships where I served as interpreter for the Austrian Army Ski Team. This was in Vermont and believe me it was cold as hell. It was a great experience though.
