What is the role of an on line magazine camera critic? And should we trust their conclusions?

One hand washes the other. Bushels of camera problems will kill sales ... but, acoarst, only if the bad news is readily accessible to prospective buyers.

At that time DSLRs were the only thing---Now Mrrorless is the only thing. I find no faults with this camera. You can make great 16x20s with it. It was not sold at the highest end market. It did not have interchangeable lenses, but had many features not seen on any other cameras then or since. "You figure why the critics" gave it thumbs down? And the Sony company changed courses.---Make your own conclusions. I have made mine!-----ew

Certainly people did not like an innovative MIRRORLESS camera at that time. The reviews did not help. I find no faults with my camera--the DSC F828--but maybe you would?----ew

Leave me out of it. Both the reviewers and users apparently found faults with the camera That, I think, is the story, not the spin you're putting on it.

Those who don't want a mirrorless camera don't want to succeed.

Yes, indeed you have hit on the theme of this thread. People perfectly satisfied with cameras not receiving good reviews FOR WHATEVER good or bad reasons. Congratulations.----(but worse for the photographer when bad reviews persuade a company to change directions?)

Generally, when bad reviews persuade companies to change directions we, as the users of improved products, are the beneficiaries of such changes.

Major changes further enable advanced users. And an ancillary benefit for other, grumpier, users is that it provides them more things to loudly publicly complain about, rendering them Legends in Their Own Minds. IOW change is a win-win all the way around.

Well wide acre-----tell me what advances came by rejecting MIRRORLESS twenty years and resurrecting it now as the darling of UHH? Tell me the faults with the Sony model I depicted or keep your snarkiness to yourself?----

ROTFLMFAO ... snarkety snark snark.

Who cares about your one sorryassed relic having no bearing on the situation. No one mourns its passing.

Everything is wrong with it. The list is waaaay too long and tedious. We keep one dead one on display and schidtcan the others, worthless even for parts.

Since you didn"t bother to go to the Wikipedia link I'll quote what they said about the problems with that camera:

"Visible picture noise, associated with increased pixel density and underdeveloped noise reduction algorithm, was of primary concern. Moreover, the novel RGBE sensor did not bring in much improved color accuracy as expected; this led Sony to drop any further development on such sensors, making F828 the first and the last commercial camera ever to use a 4-color sensor. Many photographers also noted more severe purple fringing on F828s than on its predecessors."

Time for you to find a new case study to support your reviewer bashing exercise.
