I too was a happy user of ProShow Gold until it didn’t work anymore. I now have PTE AV Studio, not a subscription but fairly priced for an incredible program. I think they still have a free trial so worth a look. It’s similar to ProShow but I think it has even more flexibility if you want to play with it and really learn it.

I know we've talked about this before, but I could use some updated assistance in photo slideshows. I had Proshow Gold and loved it. As you know, it has been discontinued. I started having problems with it and eventually uninstalled it. I've tried Photostage, and I've discovered that when I download my images, they show up with an ugly blue-green grade to them. I tried editing each image separately but found it both tedious and inadequate to restoring the images as they were originally. I've sent a message to tech support and am still awaiting an answer as to how to correct this.

So...what photo software programs are you using? I'd prefer something I can add music to. What do you recommend...or not recommend? I'd also prefer something I don't have to subscribe to, if possible. (Photopia was supposed to be PSG's replacement...but I'm not keen on spending $25 a month to use it.) I'm willing to buy a license, as I use these slideshows commercially.

Thanks for whatever help you can provide.
I know we've talked about this before, but I could... (show quote)

I use the free one with Windows 7 still works.

You might try "Audio Jungle" for buyout music. There's a wide range of music and the rates are reasonable.

Thank you, I'll have a look

if you use a MAC or MacBook Pro Imovie is excellent for good slideshow and music all done in a very quick time with good transitions and editing options.

People have already mentioned the software packages I use, but here may be just a few more hints. I use MS PowerPoint, Windows Photos, and Irfanview. It all depends on what I actually want to do.

IrfanView is the most straight-forward, but I have never tried adding sound.

MS PowerPoint is very versatile. One can add music or sounds to any picture or throughout the slideshow. Saving it in various formats is another plus.

windows Photos is very easy to use to make still photos and/or videos into a video with timing for the still photos. Music can be added as you wish. Once can cut music in a program such as Audacity to the length one needs and then add several pieces to one movie (slideshow). While the timing looks like it has only a menu of integer seconds to choose from, one can add whatever time is needed by typing in the little window. I'm have never exceeded the maximum, so I do not know what that is. The resulting video can either be "high-, medium, or low-quality" mp4 format with resulting file sizes, if that is a concern.

As to licensing for music, please do obey the copyright laws. We should not forget that they are at least partially put in place to protest the income of the artist/writer. Having said that, therre are numerous sources of fee music, and I don't mean those websites that have scavengered music from the web that is often in reality copyrighted.

Have fun. --Richard

I don't see any message showing Apple's Keynote as a program for use. I have always used Keynote for its benefits. Not familiar with any others.

Yes, I did use ProShow Gold many years ago, but when I went to Apple I found ProShow as a defunct program.

LR has a slide show capability. Add pics to a collection, add some music and it works!

If you purchased a song and are using it for personal , non-commercial purposes, you can use it. Showing a slide show to your family? You don’t have to use royalty free music.

But I am pretty sure that the original question came from a person who said later that they were using it commercially. ---Richard

Once upon a time (circa 1970 to 1990) there was Multi-Image, the art of simultaneous projection of multiple slide images in synchronization with a high fidelity sound track. This art form was used for presentations at corporate meetings and workshops, museums, CIA brainwashing sessions, Miami police simulation training, and many other applications.

The idea was to avoid the boring, static, image on screen <kuh-lick> image on screen <kuh-lick>, and instead, bless or blast the user's senses with a parade of imagery and grounding narration, tied together with emotive music.

We used special copy cameras, slide mounts, racks and racks of slide projectors, and dissolve units to fade slides in and out on screen. Animation was possible. Computers controlled the display to 1/100 second precision. Dissolves could last .25 seconds to 12 seconds. We could do titling, overlays, insets and mortises, and all sorts of special effects.

Then came PowerPoint to ruin it all. Multi-image died off in the mid-1990s. "Too expensive..." said the beady-eyed guys in accounting with the big butts.

Finally, by the mid-2010s, we had 4K video, which can replicate nearly everything we did with multi-image, and then some. These days, a backpack full of photo and computer gear is a portable production studio that can make videos anywhere, with guerrilla precision. They can include motion pictures, stills, titles, special effects, music, narration... You name it, the same creatives who did multi-image production with slides can do it again, and stay on budget.

I may have missed that. You are certainly right on commercial use.

No one has mentioned the Slideshow module in Lightroom. Is it low on the "prefered" list?
