Beautiful harbinger of what's to come!

Thanks! Freezing Fog this morning, so I get to scrape windshields the first time this season.

We got 8 to12” at our place in Virginia City putting somewhat of a dent in our timing to head back down to Arizona in our 5th wheel. Supposed to warm up in a few days (25 this morning) so we will get a melt and be able to get going. Guess this is why they call us snowbirds. Fly south in the winter.

At that depth it can interfere with plans, but same as here, it will melt pretty fast. We used to go somewhere warmer for a week in the Fall and again in the Spring, but based on what I've read about air travel, ain't flying anymore. We're down to places we can easily drive to.

Aah, the memories - first snow in October (sometimes Sept.) was covered by layers lasting until May! The Adirondacks were a great place to live, but the winters lasted much too long.

Everywhere I've lived for any length of time was the same as your experience till Montana. Most Winters so far, it comes and goes, a few inches that melts, then another few, etc. Of course, one Winter a few years back there were 5 foot drifts at the bottom of the driveway.

Great photos. I know what you mean about the snow having woken up to that white stuff yesterday. But mine is going away and warm temperatures are on the way at least for a while. I used to have a long driveway when I lived in Colorado at 7000 feet. Fortunately my wife and I each had a 4X4 truck so just drove right through it, never shoveled or plowed. Like you I am retired so there isn't any place I HAVE to get to.

I wish you well,

Dennis

Thanks, Dennis! Still have a long driveway, UTV plow can handle all but the worst, after that it is the loader on the tractor. Really though, we could be in for a good bit without much more inconvenience than running out of milk for the coffee. Country life!

Absolutely!!! I love the country. I am not there presently but have many years of fond memories of seeing deer and bear from my front porch, finding mountain lion tracks and scat near and on the trunk of a new car I bought for my wife, finding a lion head, killed by another lion, 300 yards from my house, wild flowers and so on.

Thanks! When I was working and had kids in school, I hated snow. Retired, I don't need to go anywhere if conditions are bad. Except for extremes, it really doesn't bother me anymore, other than that I may need to plow the driveway.

Absolutely!! Winter can be beautiful and serene, especially when experienced by looking out large windows from in front of the fireplace you posted the other day!

That is pretty wild! There are Lions are around here, but I think they may avoid places that have several big dogs. No bears as yet, most of the other smaller players. Usually not a problem.

Beautiful quixdraw. The advantage of living here is you never have to shovel sunshine.

For sure! However, this last Summer we had too many 100° plus extra digits days. Does correlate with the solar cycle, but if I'd wanted to retire to a hot place I'd have picked NM or AZ in all likelihood, or just gone to He** with myself.

Woke up this morning to Winter Wonderland Lite, a bit more falling. Won't amount to much, and a week of more seasonable weather will melt it off. Thirteen years ago, this day, or very close, the timber frame of the house had just gone up and we had a blizzard, better than a foot of snow. I had the rare privilege of shovelling the entire first floor of my house. Much prefer this! D750 AF S 24-85 1:3.5 4.5 G

I have really enjoyed your Montana photos. I worked in the oilfields nearby.

Thanks very much! What puzzles me is that you almost can't tell when / if wells will be pumping, even those close to each other. Some cranking, some not. With your experience, what's the scoop?
