Thanks very much! What puzzles me is that you almost can't tell when / if wells will be pumping, even those close to each other. Some cranking, some not. With your experience, what's the scoop?

Most of the wells in your area are on pump (not natural flow).
When the pumping unit is not cranking the well is idle. Some wells are low producers and only pump (crank) intermittently.
Many of them have high water cut (%) and move lots of water with little oil.
Hope this answers your question.
Water injection wells generally have no pumping unit, just the wellhead. Many of these might have originally flowed or pumped.
Enjoy your photos of the area.

Thank you very much! Love to learn new things. There will be a lot more Montana photos on the way, even with the coming cold!

The dusting of snow as a nice element to the landscape in these very nice shots. It is hard to believe it is mid October already. 20 and 21 are both a blur.

One or the more thoughtful and correct comments I've heard recently. Thanks!

Woke up this morning to Winter Wonderland Lite, a bit more falling. Won't amount to much, and a week of more seasonable weather will melt it off. Thirteen years ago, this day, or very close, the timber frame of the house had just gone up and we had a blizzard, better than a foot of snow. I had the rare privilege of shovelling the entire first floor of my house. Much prefer this! D750 AF S 24-85 1:3.5 4.5 G
