I was thinking it was the element named “Stoopiditiotum.” After all I was a chemistry and physics major.

Seem we share a cultural background. I am a Brooklyn guy as well- Williamsburg and Bet-Sty! I, however, have the distinction of being thrown out of two of the finest Hebrew schools! I guess was not destined to be a Talmudic scholar! It all started to decline when the Rabbi said that Moses parted the Red Sea and I interjected that water weighted 62.5 lbs per cubic foot and that, therefore, would be impossible!

Philosophically speaking, I am or should be over 100 years old. I was raised by my grandmotehr- she was tough and simplified my religious/moral values. I guess you could say it is a combination of the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule. Basically, don't' lie, cheat, or steal and always treat people as you expect to be treated. Violation of these tenets would not necessarily send me off to hell but bring on immediate penalties from the business end of a broom, a rolling pin, or whatever heavy object grandma was holding in her hand at the time of the violation. Saying bad things about others without reason would bring on an oral lavage with kosher soap!

Education? I noticed your comment to User ID about education. I too have a few letters after may name and some decent credentials. I also know folks that have very impressive letters- multiple degrees and doctorates, from the finest Ivy League Universities and yet have litte common sense and less morality.

Shalom, brother!

Dear Mr Shapiro: I was writing about the 9th Commandment and cultural custom Loshon Hora. I too was booted out of Talmudic School. Rather than go into it, I was the most rebellious student they ever enrolled. Keeping that in mind, my parent were strict Jewish heritage. After my father would take his belt to my backside, he hand me over to my mother who would use her backhand. Not wanting to hijack this thread or post, I just wish that we could do the same for those who make false accusations. But to tell the truth my belt would wear out and my backhand would be sore.

Shalom to PhotoLady2014 and to
Mr. E. L. Shapiro

IG is an absolutely fabulous site to book work on... both paid and collaborative.
I've meet an amazing wealth of incredible people on IG...
And have grown professionally from interfacing from some of the most notable photographers, makeup artists, hair stylist and clothing designers in the World! Many are at the zenith of their industries or are up and coming talents of considerable worth and value...

I'm seeing a lots of folks in this post attempting to put down the most popular social media and photo sharing site in the world... I simply have to assume out of their lack of experience with IG. Which is perfectly fine since I've not observed much on UHH that even approaches the magnitude of excellence latent IG. However you have to know how to navigate the site, who to become "Friends" with and what categories of imagery to "Like". Doing so allows IG's algorithms to match your interests with like minded accounts.

I've meet and worked with internationally renowned ballerinas and fashion models on IG who have walked the runways of Milan Italy etc. And many photographers who have worked fashion shows across the globe.

Please keep in mind that IG is exceptional for breathtaking posts of imagery of people.... Not landscapes or birds that seem to dominate on UHH. If you are not interested in amazingly talented fashion models; ballerinas; athletes; etc then maybe it's not for you...

Best Advice for UHH members? Please try https://www.flickr.com/explore
Here you will find breathtaking excellence in many popular UHH genres far beyond what is currently available on UHH. I'm investing most of my time here now...

And I'm only the messenger here... Not selling, not competing... only bringing my experiences to the table. Wishing all here all the best on your delightful journey :)

Final thoughts? I closed my studio on July 1st 2020 and shortly thereafter I closed my IG account owing to Covid-19 pandemic. My dearest friend/colleague of the past half decade is currently an ICU nurse in her hospital's Covid Ward. She is a hero of amazing perseverance, courage and skill. To this end I ask you all to please stay safe, always wear a mask in public and practice social distancing... Please take part in helping to end this pandemic and protect our valiant healthcare workers. Respiratory failure is a horrific way to die...

I don’t think that I was trashing Intagram. I believe that Hoggers were explaining their bad experiences there.

Wow, just had an upsetting situation happen on Instagram. I made a comment on a non photography post on Instagram and someone must have gone to my page, or what ever you call it, and looked at my photos. They then went on to say that many of the photos were not mine! They even said they had seen one on Nat Geo and was not mine and I was not giving credit! I responded to this person saying they were certainly all mine and the response back was there is no watermark and why do others names show up? Then proceeded to ask if I worked for Nat Geo.... I can only assume the other names they referred to are the people I tagged who were on the trip with me and I do not use a watermark, as many on Instagram do not.

This just really upsets me to be accused of claiming someone else’s photo! I did once again reply that I guaranteed that 1,000% they are all my photos and I was honored they thought my photos were Nat Geo worthy....

This would be my advice as well.

I don't use Instagram much, but I recently had the same sort of thing happen on Facebook. I joined a new group that is about my state and photography. A young man posted some photos he had taken with his new phone that was his Christmas gift. Other people had commented that what he had for now was a good starter, but in the future if he really was interested in photography he might want to upgrade to a DSLR where he could have more control. A girl had commented that he didn't need to get some expensive camera to do photography. Apparently she didn't like me pointing out that getting a camera where one would have more control over things like shutter speed, aperture, ISO etc. didn't have to be expensive. She then scoped out my cover photos which weren't set to private and started taking screen shots of them and blasting them. I simply blocked her. It was a bit upsetting at the time, bit I quickly moved on and can enjoy seeing other photos in the group. (Plus I was reminded that I needed to go back and change those settings on my cover photos to private.) Not sure what her problem was. I had literally been in the group for an hour and was only trying to point out that there are many ways of getting photography gear and that it doesn't always have to be expensive.

Whether or not you want to watermark a photo is your choice. Just be aware that there are trolls everywhere who will always be trying to accuse you of something. A lot of times it's jealousy. Sometimes it's just because they have nothing better to do. It also means that they're a pretty mean individual deep down because they don't want to see an 'average joe' be able to make amazing works. At the same time though that should be a compliment to you that you take photos they feel are NatGeo worthy. Unless you do in fact work for NatGeo. If you do, congrats on being able to travel and take amazing photos.

In the words of Taylor Swift, haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate... You just need to keep doing you and going on. As long as you enjoy what you do that's the important thing.

I haven’t seen instances of trolling here. I’m not a moderator, and only been on about 5 years. Yeah...sometimes there’s the snarky response, at least offered without an attack...and everyone here is typically thick skinned and VERY helpful and supportive.

Maybe we need a refresher in social media safety (face it...UHH is social media), and be more vigilant.

I’ll suggest that if you think you’re the victim of a personal attack (yes...challenges to your credentials, credibility, and abilities are attacks), raise it privately to a moderator. Don’t engage.

The one thing I used to do on that other group was alert the moderator and shut down new members for a few days. Kick off the offender. These folks are looking to get a rise out of you, and will keep checking for open doors until they find one.

Heck...maybe they’re like Alpine and Blaupunkt radios and fruitcake: there’s only one and it keeps getting given or stolen.

I think I am over it! It was just shocking initially and bothersome. Thanks for your thoughts!

Could he have seen your photo somewhere else with a watermark on it, meaning someone stole your photo and claimed it as theirs.

Best way is to tell them that the serial number of the camera is embedded in the EXIF data on the photo and the camera is registered to me. If they want to take it to court you have proof.

I'm not worried about the comment enough for court! It was just a first for me and it just took me by surprise and then made me mad! Everyone's advice to get over it is well taken. Over it!
Thanks for your comment.

Tell the jackass to mind his own damn business and then block his sorry ass - probably some half wit sitting in his underwear in his mother’s basement just looking to stir trouble.

That is the problem with sites like that--that is why I avaoid them. Sometimes we get a stinker here too, but we are smart enough to laugh them down.

Another answer you might have given is to suggest they let National Geographic know about your pictures. NG can tell them if they are their pictures--and who knows, NG might buy them.
