Over Labor Day weekend 1995, I was visiting Manhatten Beach. On Saturday of that weekend, I had a book with me when I strolled the two blocks to the beach. It looked like your photo of Huntington Beach, not a soul in sight. My experience was weather-induced. It was rather cold and cloudy. I dressed appropriately, got out on the sand, scooped out a somewhat lawn lounge chair form in the sand, and sat there and read for a few hours. It was quite delightful to have the peace and quiet with only the sound of the waves in the background.

This has been The weirdest 4th of July at Huntington Beach ever. The pier was shut down along with ALL the beaches. The boardwalk where you could ride your bike was open and there were plenty of joggers and bikers but no one on the beach. It was really a shame too because the waves were BIG and no surfers at all. It was like a ghost town on the sand. What a difference a year makes. Normally on the 4th of July there would be thousands of people enjoying the beach and ocean. Photo #4 really tells a story about how many beach goers wanted to celebrate Independence day with the stars and stripes........even on their face with a patriotic mask.
These all look best in download mode.

Nice captures Brent. It's De ja vu all over again. I am old enough, 77, to remember when week days at the beach looked a lot like that.

I hear ya Curmudgeon........the Good Old Days! lol
Thanks Curmudgeon

Your beaches look like my beaches or rather South Padre - sad.
But check those bikes a SCHWINN. When was the last time I saw a Schwinn like that?

Brent ... as I sit here looking at the closures ..it is sad .., this virus ..a little thing that has to be seen under the microscope has shut down Planet Earth .., and reminds us how fragile it all is ...\
L thnx for the shots of one of my old hang outs .., that and Hermosa Beach Pier ....

I agree with you Dr. Nikon.......our planet is very fragile. In history we can read about the Black Plague and other problems in the past this fragile planet has experienced. Hopefully we will get this all behind us ASAP.

I'm glad to see your folk are observing some sort of social distancing Brent. Just over a week ago over 500,000 people crowded on to the Beaches at Bournemouth on the south coast of England despite warnings from the police!

Doddy, it's not a choice here........we are restricted to be on the beach. The Police make sure of that. I hope the reprocussions of the 500,000 wasn't to bad.

Quite different than the beaches in NYC. To me, California did the right thing. You were still able to get some interesting pictures.

Thank you Mike........I'm just happy the city didn't shut down the boardwalk too. I wouldn't have gotten any photos at all then. At least I could ride my bike along and take a few shots.

A very interesting set of photographs. Very moody, to my mind. But beautiful, yes!

Wierd and strange for sure. Who would have thought it would be like this one year ago?
Thanks for the kind comments Paul.
