You can easily buy a used 5D MKIII and a 24-105 f4L for under your budget, and if you shop carefully, maybe a used 5D MK IV and the same lens. Both the 5D3 and the 5D4 are pro grade workhorses, so I wouldn’t be afraid of a good used one as long as the shutter count isn’t excessive. When I sold my 5D3 (to buy a 5D4), the shutter count was ~260,000, and it still looked and operated as new.

Hi All UHH Members,

I am thinking about moving from my Canon t2i to a full frame camera. I can't spend more than about 2k. My current lenses are only good for my t2i, so everything requires change.

I am asking for suggestions that fit into the $2k catagory. Of course maybe a package deal for starters.

I like my t2i but am not set on staying with canon. BTW I shoot mostly outdoors and landscape and nature. I am very novice at this.

Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

I really like my Canon RP with a 24-105L f4 lens.
My Canon 5DIV stays at home a lot since I got the RP.
BTW I too only shoot indoors and out.
Enjoy your photographic journey.
Only you know what will work best for you and within your budget.

Most high quality FF DSLR's can be switched in the menu to use the cropped format. I know that some Nikons have this feature so that they can use the DX lenses. Canon probably does too. If so, just get a FF body and use your crop frame lenses. Since you’re an admitted novice you might consider sticking with your current camera. FF lenses are way more expensive and heavier than the others.

Canon full frame DSLRs cannot use EF-s lenses. The R and RP can mount all EF and EF-s lenses (as well as RF lenses, of course) with the Canon mount adapter with no loss of IQ or auto-focus capability.

I love my half frame Nikon D7200 and have shot quite a few weddings with it. You really mainly gain low light performance and better bokeh with full frame. For my fun photos I have gone the other direction with micro 4/3 because of the small lenses. I have read that Sony is the leader in FF right now. You might want to read Thom Hogan's sansmirror.com site for the latest news and reviews. I would not buy another DSLR at this point.

So Canon isn’t downward compatible with all of its lenses and bodies? That’s good to know.

I read a good review of the EOS R yesterday, and I was intrigued. During the day, I read lots of reviews and comparisons. Fortunately, I discovered that it is not a perfect camera, so I saved $1,800, plus the cost of lenses. I'll just have to be satisfied with my other imperfect cameras till the perfect one is developed.

What were the issues listed? And was the review recent enough to include the firmware updates?

My one and only FF camera is my PENTAX k-1. Every pentax lens made for The K-mount(since 1975) fits and works well. Pentax K-1 & K-1ii are just under 2K and there are virtually millions of lense by pentax & their “3rd party” providers. It is a great system at a cost that’s significantly below cameras of “even lesser” capacity..RJM

Interestingly enough Keith, I upgraded from FF Nikon to some Fuji gear that I prefer for most work.

Cheers!

What lenses to you have? If you have purchased EF-S lenses, they will not work on a full frame, so you will also have to invest in new lenses.

I think that's one of the really short-sighted things Canon has done. Since EF lenses work on all cameras, why on earth make lenses that only work on some?????

I am contemplating the same change. However, after looking at what the Z50 can do and at the two lens bundle cost of less than $2000 and a 30-day money-back trial. I believe I am going to pull the trigger on that setup.

The Canon EOS RP can be had for $1000 and the 24-240mm RP lens is going for $780, This is within your budget. I own the RP and it's a terrific camera. Very user friendly.

I’ll join the gang suggesting you check out Canon’s refurbished web store. If you have only EF-S lenses, you’re going to need more than just a functioning body.

Canon's crop sensor DSLRs can use both EF and EF-s lenses. It's full frame DSLRs can use only EF lenses. The R series can use all EF, EF-s, and RF lenses.
