Hi All UHH Members,

I am thinking about moving from my Canon t2i to a full frame camera. I can't spend more than about 2k. My current lenses are only good for my t2i, so everything requires change.

I am asking for suggestions that fit into the $2k catagory. Of course maybe a package deal for starters.

I like my t2i but am not set on staying with canon. BTW I shoot mostly outdoors and landscape and nature. I am very novice at this.

Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

You say you are "very novice at this". I urge you to sit down and identify specific reasons why your current camera is deficient. Then start looking for a replacement....

I started with the T2i and it was/is a very good camera, my current camera is the 90D, I was also looking into FF, but to be honest, unless you are a PRO, I have changed my mind. for 2K you could get the 90D and the updated 18-135 & 10-18, now you are ready to roll. just my opinion.

I agree. The 90D kit with the 18-135 USM would be a significant upgrade and would allow you to keep your current lenses, and possibly add another great lens. The Canon 6D Mark II would be a good full frame option, and can be purchased with one of the Canon 24-105 lenses within your budget. However, that would give you only one lens for the new camera. The only real advantage the 6D Mark II would give you over the 90D is improved low light capability. If that is important to you, that might be a good reason to go full frame when you upgrade.

Why not another cropped camera? I do not know the kind of lenses you have now but $2000 will not go a long way today when it comes to buying a camera and lenses. The second hand market is always a great option.

It is a full frame, it is above your budget, but it is currently on sale.

This could be a tough task, considering your all in budget, unless you look at refurbished or preowned. Check the Canon refurbished site and be comfortable that they come with a one year warranty. KEH and MPB are both very reputable and very conservative in their ratings, and both offer 180 day warranties. Roberts in Indianapolis has a division called Used Photo Pro which I hear is quite reputable, but I have never traded with them so I cannot speak about them with first hand knowledge. The other two, KEH and MPB, are first rate businesses. Good luck!

I second the 6DII plus 24-105 L package. It will get your started with full frame. You can always use lens rentals and rent any longer lenses you want to take for your trip.

The 'L' option will likely be above the OP's budget. The standard lens is no shoddy performer.

Believer,

Thank you, I have looked at the canon RP, but saw mixed reviews. I am headed to Yellowstone late May and want to upgrade and test before then.

Thank You

Keith

The R and RP have both gotten mixed reviews, often, it seems, for the unforgiveable sin of not being absolutely perfect and often by reviewers who have apparently never touched either. That is not to say that they don't have some shortcomings, many of which have been addressed by firmware updates. If I had listened to the reviewers I never would have bought my R a year ago and I wouldn't know what a good camera it is. I'll never go back to a DSLR. Right now B&H has a sale on the RP and the RF 24-240 lens. That combo at the sale price listed is unbeatable. Well within budget and a great focal range for travel. I suggest you read the user reviews that are listed and then decide if that is the combo for you or not.

That is not an upgrade from a crop sensor, they would be getting a smaller sensor moving to 4/3.

Full frame on a budget of 2K is not going to attain much. I've seen Third Party lenses costing $1500. Example. The Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 G2.

The Canon eos r is a good one...

I read a good review of the EOS R yesterday, and I was intrigued. During the day, I read lots of reviews and comparisons. Fortunately, I discovered that it is not a perfect camera, so I saved $1,800, plus the cost of lenses. I'll just have to be satisfied with my other imperfect cameras till the perfect one is developed.

I have shot with both crop sensor bodies and FF bodies and current use both. My main interest is also Landscape. So, I’d ask you > WHY do you want to move to a FF body? What images are you not able to capture with what you have now? Why do you think that a FF body is an “upgrade”.

Full frame is NOT the holy grail, and unless you are planning on printing (and selling) images larger than 20x30, my advise is to learn how to make superior images with your existing equipment, maybe add some high quality glass and enjoy photography, not equipment.

Apologies to all the others who have contrary advice and all the retailers as well.

That T2i is no slouch, even though 10 years old. If you have a good telephoto and the kit standard zoom, you can get awesome photos of Yellowstone and it's wildlife. Use a tripod and polarizer, RAW 14 bit, and you can shoot sharp, clear, enlargeable photos to remember your trip by. Changing systems right now is not a good idea. I would wait at least a year while the mirrorless FF offerings are settling in to the most recent technologies that make them a superior choice to the DSLR's at reasonable prices.

I owed following cameras: Minolta xg1, canon 300d, canon t3i, Nikon 7000 and Nikon 810, exactly in this order.
My 2 Favoriten are Nikon 810 and my Minolta. I have some older FX lenses like the tokina 100mm 2.8f macro, tokina 300mm 2.8f on my 7000 body it’s a hassle to use it, on 810 not a problem. Important settings are accessible without going in the menu......
I would invest in 5d MK 3 or MK 4 or Nikon 810/850 or mirror less.
I got my 810 out of a pawn shop, was a hell of a ride.....lol....Look up ken Rockwell.
