Always knew Mercury had wings...just didn’t know there were so many of them.

Great shots!

I'm guessing an Explore Scientific 127mm triplet? APO refractors are awesome for planets and moon. Your bird shot is right up there with a ISS crossing.

Hi Alberio
The APO is great for the moon and decent on the planets. However I found the C11 is better for imaging the planets since it has a much longer focal length. Below are 2 posts of shots of solar and lunar events taken with the APO and 2 shots of planets taken with the C11

Ballard, very well done, the geese are amazing. I don't understand why people hijack a post.

I cannot speak to William's actual intent but I took it as being a poetic comment about the symmetry of the sun (a circle is perfect) since the sun is almost a perfect sphere and only bulges by about 10 km at the equator, considering that is almost 1.2 million km in diameter that is very close to perfect. The rest I assumed referenced that he wasn't able to view the transit directly (perhaps I reading more into it).

Ok Ballard you got my curiosity up after looking at your 2017 Solar eclipse pics. You said you were in Victor Idaho. That's where I was also. We were at Teton Valley RV Park.

Well it is a small world, I was in the Teton Valley RV park also. Either of the first 2 shots below look familiar?
The last shot is me today in my backyard wearing my Teton Valley Eclipse T shirt.

The Mercury transit shots are nice but I love the shot with the geese. It is outstanding.

The last shot with the geese also had Mercury near the upper right hand edge of the sun, so it was a twofer.
Thanks for checking out the photos.

The first is me kneeling down with my scope and now I recognize you. We were working there and we were all setup behind our 5th wheel. I managed to get a couple shots as well. The owner of the RV Park was extremely pleased with the turnout and the fact we were pretty close to ground zero.

Nice set, #6 should be hanging in my family room for all to admire.

Today I just printed a 16x20 inch print of this image and hung it on the wall in the dinning room.
