In August of 2017 I went to Victor Idaho to catch the total Eclipse of the Sun. Below are a few of the pictures I took at the event. All the photos where taken with a canon EOS 60D DSLR connected to an 5 inch Apo refractor being guided on a Losemandy G11 mount (except for the one my wife took of me standing near the scope). The first two shots were taken with a filter to greatly dim the sun. In these shots you can see several sunspots as well as some of the convection cells on its surface (the convection cells give it that somewhat mottled appearance).
Fantastic series. I'm sure the images, which are excellent, don't capture all the excitement of being there. Looks crowded.

Yep. Thanks for checking out the pictures. The event was an awesome experience. In the last minute before totality it was as if someone took a rheostat and turned the sun off. Your eyes adapt during the initial part of the eclipse so you don't notice how the light is fading until the just before the sun is completely covered. It became cooler and the horizon in all directions appear to be a uniform twilight. People were in gasping awe. You could easily see Venus, Jupiter and Saturn with the naked eye while in totality. I plan to go to the total eclipse in April 8th 2024 that will run through Texas and up towards the east coast of the US.
That sounds like a plan. Hope to see you there!

I believe you were right behind my 5th wheel at the RV Park in Victor. It was a great event. Nice scope by the way.
