Originally a big controversy about having a cross on public land, so the
property was deeded to a private foundation and the cross still remains.

Love the symbolism of both God & Country

It may not be politically correct in today's warped view, but the Confederates were also Americans.

In my home town of Galion, Ohio, the Historical Society took on the task of honoring all the local vets..
They asked for families to submit photos, and a small donation, to make banners of all the Vets , living and passed.
Then they worked with the City Dept to get them all hung in time for Memorial Day weekend. Last year, they had well over a 100, and they just told my wife Sue, that this year, they maxxed out, (run out of lamp posts) at over 150... (I love small towns)...
Now it is to be an annual undertaking, hanging the pictures every year, from Memorial Day, through Veterans Day, in November...
Pretty cool... and with all this in mind.... thank you Vets...thank you TransBuff, and Thank-you for hosting...

I agree...they fought and died for our country, many times brother against brother. I disagree entirely that it is politically correct to destroy/remove monuments that represent history...there is no other country in the world that has ever done such a thing.

I love seeing you all's photos, and a big "Thank You" to all who have served! These are a few I took and a few from my family history. My relatives served in many wars in the past............4 of my Mother's 5 brothers served during WW2 and my family served all the way back to the Revolutionary War. But these are what I could find now.

A fine series Roxie.

Thank you Transbuff for hosting this very meaningful challenge...my in-law side of the family for every generation here on American soil there was a family member in the Armed Services, some points they were in different branches sometimes making family gatherings interesting to say the least, then it skipped a generation were there was not one family member in the services...then my daughter joined the US Army, then her cousin joined, then another cousin joined the US Navy and yet two more joined the US Coast Guard, reviving the family's contribution to the Armed Forces with one twist...they were all female! So there is a monument in the center of a nearby town, it is so large I have broken it down in sections tonight I present the first part of a four part series.....
Thank you Transbuff for hosting this very meaningf... (show quote)
