I recently purchased a refurbished Nikon nifty 50 (f 1.8 - f 16) and am making myself use it. I also have a 50mm that came w the pre-owned canon 70D I bought a few years ago. They are my only primes. I can't always zoom w my legs so tend to rely heavily on my zoom lenses. This post is of images taken recently - in last month at least. If you don't have a prime, you might consider selecting only 1 focal length on a zoom lens and shooting only that focal length for Sue's challenge. It's an exercise in self discipline if you tend to use zooms because I've tried it and I keep wanting to zoom.

Please allow me to cheat briefly in order to draw to your attention the work and death of a remarkable photographer in Hong Kong.

Some of his work and philosophy is displayed on the BBC news page - "Michael Wolf: The man who found beauty in megacities"
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-48076865

I think everyone will enjoy, and perhaps profit from these images (may not be eligible as primes though).

I like and use both, I prefer zooms, because of their convenience factor, but I use primes a lot too. I do not see any difference in sharpness between those two, but the primes are usually faster (at least most times)!

I love the convenience of my Tamron 18-400mm super zoom which performs beautifully in good light but it leaves a lot to be desired in low light such as in church or a museum because of excessive noise. A prime lens really shines in those situations and reduces noise significantly - hopefully, there will be even greater reduction when I upgrade to full frame.

From the archives.
I have a number of prime lenses and were used a lot in low light, usually wide open or near wide open.

Hooks in to my issue of the moment. I am considering a Nikon 35mm 1.8 AFS (D3200). Versus 40mm 2.8 micro(macro). Loosing the light of course. Would I better off with the 35 mm and add extension tube for macro, and have the advantage of the larger F (4x light of 2.8)?

Here's an example of how close a 35mm can get - it's not a macro, but it is close.

Most of my lenses are prime lenses. Very often I use 50mm or the 55mm with adapter on NEX-6.
Here is one with 55mm NAI Nikkor f/3.5.
