Check other options before using Precision Camera. I've used them and they are horrible. Lost lens caps, did not repair lens or camera first time. Never will I use them. Please chk their reputation online. Too many bad comments. Also I went back and forth with them for 2 months on a Sony repair.

I purchased a Panasonic Leica 100-400 mm lens and a Lumix GX8. When purchasing, I made the mistake of buying the Square Trade insurance wrongly thinking it was for both. But, it was apparently for the camera only. The camera, with the lens attached and in the camera bag, got knocked to a floor, and now both the camera and lens and lens are broken. Square Trade is handling the repair of my camera. But I don't know exactly what to do about this very expensive lens. I took it in to a camera repair shop in Asheville, NC, who said that the lens mount as well as some electrical connections are broke, but they cannot fix the lens mount because they cannot get a part for it. They said the lens looked fine. The lens was purchased (B & H) 4/18. Naturally, the warranty doesn't cover an accidental drop. I am sick about this. Any good advice? :( Thank you, friends!

Panasonic would be your best bet for repair, but I have no how good their repair service is. I know Nikon is very good, but other brands are more into selling. You can start the process online.

[quote=Kgary]Check with your credit card company. Many credit cards have a warranty benefit for situations like yours. Good luck[/quo

Most credit card companies do not cover accident losses. Insurance companies do that, he should contact his home owners insurance company first and check with them on coverage. If credit card companies covered folks mishaps they would soon be out of business. They are not in the business of insurance coverage on every purchase.

Ugh, accidents do happen. As per previous advice, contact Panasonic and see what they recommend, that may be your best option. If its too expensive, you might be able to sell it for parts and have to accept the loss if all else fails.

No advise, just letting you know that I know how you feel. My Nikon 300 2.8 AFS VR fell off my camera, bounced once and landed in the swimming pool. I watched the bubbles rise from the water as the lens sank. That was in front of a swim meet full of people. Chlorine kills lenses. Nikon wanted $5,000 to repair it. My 24-70 2.8 fell off my camera and plummeted from a 4th floor balcony into a shallow stream. Dead. Best news was that there was no one below. My insurance did cover both, without deductible because they were both scheduled items. I keep a detailed list of all camera equipment and update it with new purchases and forward it to my insurance company whenever I add or delete something. So sorry.

Keep us posted on the final outcome. Yes, that is a rather pricy lens. But at least it is not a Canon prime 400mm which runs around $7K

It is rather bleak. Get in touch with the company that made the lens [I know, an obvious answer], you will have to pay but that's less expensive than replacing it. Sometimes the manufacturer, for reasons of good PR gives you a good break. As for that camera bag, here is where it pays to spend extra money and get a really good one. Something that has nice adjustable and well fitted compartments that can absorb shocks and protect your rather expensive gear. Sometimes learning can be expensive. That part I truly know. Welcome to the club.

I would go back to B&H. They can either get it repaired or give you the name of a camera shop that
can do it. I would also try Tempe Camera in the Phoenix area. They are excellent at repairs.
Best of luck! >Alan

Just talked to Precision Camera and they no longer repair Panasonic products. The authorized repair center is now:

BTW years ago I sent my Olympus EM-5 and grip to Precision Camera because they repaired Olympus under warranty.
They broke the grip. They bought me a new one immediately.

If you're an amateur, get a personal property policy from your insurer for your camera gear and accessories. Mine is with State Farm. Can even cover computers and printers. Covers repair or replace, no deductible, no depreciation. Very reasonable cost.

Again truly sorry for your loss and it also reminded me to re-check my insurance coverage....yep, covered world wide.

Probably been said before but if you have personal insurance coverage, the camera should/maybe be covered under that policy.

That is so crappy! I know how you feel. I had the Panasonic 100-400 mm lens and the seals broke and dust got inside to the point that it was not fixable. I did not get the extended warranty and so the cost to replace was on me. What I ended up doing was putting it on Ebay for salvage/parts, with a detailed explanation of the problem (fixed price, best offer), and got 500.00 for it. Less than 1/3 of the original cost but better than nothing. So in worst case scenario this might be an option for you but hope you can find a different solution.
