Number 2. It's a more balanced image (foreground, horizon, depth of field from the center).
I like the second one best. To me, the first one has a feel of being overworked. The second is more like what I'd see if I were personally there.

#2, Brent. It's got that foreground going for it. It's nice to see some foreground and it's not often done that way.
They're both gorgeous shots.
I like #2 the best. It’s just a very attractive photo and technically well done.

What I see, the first has a lot of drama in it , the blue in the sky is to unnatural. But I really like the overall photo.
#2 is a lot more relaxing, the blue might be a little darker than a real sky. The horizontal line of the water looks off but that could be the way it is. I like the rocks up front.
As usual two more great shot by Brent, is your city by the water or inland. Just wondering why not a surf shot. Wish you the best on this and let us know how you did
#1 for me

Both are beautiful Brent! If I had to pick #2 would be my choice but I would be proud to have shot of either of them. Good luck. Terri
I love them both. I think I’d go with #2.

I'm doing one massive reply to everyone.......Thanks everyone for your input on these two photos. Every one of you had comments that I have been digesting. Your comments have been helpful in my decision and your suggestions all have merit.
For image #1 I purposely cropped it the way I did. I think the rule of thirds works best in this one and that is why there is so much sky showing. I tried cropping it other ways but always came back to this one. I felt it was more dramatic this way.
In Photo #2 I goofed up and had a black line on the left edge that I overlooked......also as several of you have mentioned, my horizon line is off, so I fixed that. The rock out in the lake is distracting and now it is cloned out.
My preference is to submit a print of #1 for the contest. I know several of you have mentioned that it is over processed. I can see why you say that and understand where you are coming from. Personally, I hate overcooked HDR images which I would put in the same category.
I don't have any horizontal images of these two photos, sorry.
I'm attaching the revised image of #2 with those three changes.
Thanks so very much for all of your thoughts and comments. I respect each of your opinions very much.

Brent......second one looks much better. Question? Are you allowed to move, change etc part of the image without getting disqualified? Also, why not enter both photos?

#1 and consider cropping off the bottom fifth or so (the lower mountain).
#1 has a bit more punch as the lighting is quite dramatic. I like it better.
I have to agree with the comments by "Ava's Papa". I like the lighting on the mountains and the dramatic, although rather foreboding, sky in the first photo.
