This is my feeling about #1 I feel it makes the mountain the subject not the clouds. Paul

Paul, I agree with you on how you cropped it and I do like what you have done. It does make the mountain the subject. I like it a lot. Thanks for your thoughts. It's also nice that the mountains are in that top 1/3rd of the image too.

Brent: I like #1 because it shows the total scenery, sky is very dramatic cannot decide if it is too much I really like them both but I think #1 more because it shows lots of the surrounding area... That is at a first glance....

Thanks I STOP TO SHOOT for the input on this one. I did choose #1 for the contest. We will see what happens on Sept 16th when it gets judged.

looks like we are not helping you much, Brent. But here is my 2 cents. Yes, they are both beautiful, but #1 is by far the more unique of the two. Its hard to know about photo contests...one set of judges will give entirely different results than another. But to stand out in the crowd always seems a good approach to me.

Fred, it's interesting that you mentioned the judges into the equation. They will be the main factor of who gets recognized or not when the ribbons are handed out. A few years ago I entered at our Orange County Fair one of my surfing photos which I thought was outstanding. It got rejected and never even made it into the fair at all. I entered the same exact photo into our City photo competition and it won first place........go figure. It's all about the judge's "opinions" and not about how good a photo is. 2 weeks ago I went to our Orange County Fair to see the photograph exhibit and was very disappointed in the photos that got the high awards. I was also very disappointed on the photos that had made it into the competition but got no recognition at all and in my opinion were excellent. My father used to say something that is very true: "Life is not fair".

no.#1 has the visual excitement . The background mountain illumination has some otherworldly connotations (IMHO). The second appears like a personal observation . Both are beautiful. Which one do you favor, Brett?

I have already chosen the first one and had it printed out already. It's in the frame and ready for the judges. To me, the judges is the scarrrrrrry part......you never quite know what to expect or what they like.

I think that they are both beautiful regardless of what other judges may state. They are both spectacular. Thanks for sharing.

I have my idea which of these two photos I would like to submit into our local city photo contest, but if I am overwhelmingly wrong please let me know.
Which do you prefer?
Thanks in advance.

#1 for me
