Battery grip pops off of my D810 - one of those things that just happen when you do something (but what?) unusual. Snaps back on.
It is made to come off when using the external power module which slides into the battery compartment - and the power wire hangs out so the door can't close - thus, it snaps off so it doesn't get lost or broken.
I would definitely go with a battery grip. I have a Vivitar model on my 5300 and am very happy with it. Also has a place in it to store the cover.

Drive on up to Beverly Hills and go visit the Nikon repair facility at Wilshire and San Vicente. Buy a replacement battery door and ask them to fit it to your camera body. When you're done, drive east on Wilshire to Fairfax, turn left and go up to Samys Cameras. Buy a battery grip. Then figure out what the reason is that battery doors have such a short lifespan on your cameras.
Gaffer tape covering the battery will, over time, expose the camera's innards to the environment.
ππππ. After the repair, if you donβt want to buy a new grip at Samyβs, check out grips at KEH Camera. I think they are having a sale on some items today, but there are spending minimums to get the discount.
I have had my D7200 for several years and cannot imagine how the door would come off unless you manhandle it.
May I jump in here and make a comment. Yes, I have had a battery door come off one of my Nikon's but this was self-induced. I left the battery door open when the battery was removed for charging.
Now I "NEVER" leave a battery door open when the battery is removed.
Keep the battery door closed and latched and you should not have a problem

Hey guys just need to vent a little about my 7100. The little door to the battery compartment came off and I lost it. This is the 2nd time on this camera and I lost one on a 3200. It always has been snapped in place. Is it just me? Very frustrating !!! I guess the solution would be to put a battery grip on. Am I right? Never used a grip before
Why vent? If you feel it is Nikon's fault, then move to Canon. Or Sony. Or Fuji. There are a lot of other choices.
Check eBay for grips for your camera.

Meant to say "Battery DOOR..."
I have a Nikon D3300 and have had no issues with the battery door, although I do see that if any of us as individual persons are not extra careful when shutting the door, a breakage issue might arise. That does not mean that the build quality of this individual photographer's Nikon Camera is exceptional, might be described as defective and fragile, it does sound like there might be an issue in the factory inspection process before shipping the Camera to the public. A possible "Re-design" may be in order to solve this issue. I do admit that this Battery door is a fragile aspect of the Camera design, so we all must take extra precautions when closing and opening the battery compartment door on our own Camreas, as this Photographer's disappointing experience has shown us. I do hope your negative experience with your Battery compartment door will not discourage you to much and you may still find some enjoyment in your Photography journey. I do hope Nikon will take a second look at their design process and find a positive solution to this issue.

Instead of a heavy, bulky and expensive battery grip, buy an L-bracket. They are actually designed to allow you to quickly change your camera from a horizontal to vertical format on a tripod equipped with a quick release, but if you block the hole on the side rail, it will also prevent the door from opening. The link below will show you what I am talking about:

I Googled and found that there are a few Nikon models with battery door problems. Most common cause is a broken door pin. Replacement options varied. Cost from 99 cents to $15. Snap back in place yourself or send to & pay Nikon to do it. I wonder if the doors listed on EBay for the D7100, D600 the new & D610 also fit other Nikons with similar doors. It would make sense for Nikon to use the same door. My new D850 has a similar flimsy door. This is a good reminder to be gentle with it. Thanks.

It happened to me with my D5100. I just went on line and found a replacement door for about $5.00. No big deal.

I do not want to be negative in any way, but I suspect you're having a big part in this, as I have never heard of anybody else having his problem!
My thought's also..
I have never had an issue with my 3200 or my 7100 ...... just need to be more careful when opening
I lost two of them in the first 6 months I had my D7100, haven't lost one in the two years since. I've put it on my "things to doublecheck" list.
I have a battery grip on my D3300. It's on all the time. It also has a battery door. If I remember it's a Vivitar. The door on the Vivitars I would say is about as good as the door on my D3300. Then if you want to use the extra shutter button you have a wire going from the battery pack to the side of the camera that leaves the little rubber door on the side of the camera open all the time. No offense but given your history with camera doors ya might think about this a little more.
