The battery compartment cover on my D7100 comes off frequently as well. Now I tape it in place but it is one more thing to carry with me when I travel. I feel your pain...

Hey guys just need to vent a little about my 7100. The little door to the battery compartment came off and I lost it. This is the 2nd time on this camera and I lost one on a 3200. It always has been snapped in place. Is it just me? Very frustrating !!! I guess the solution would be to put a battery grip on. Am I right? Never used a grip before

You can buy replacement battery compartment doors from Nikon... I keep spares for my camera bodies as all models are not always available from the Nikon Store at the same window in time... no big thing to snap a new replacement into place. I have Nikon grips for most of my Nikon bodies but seldom use them but they do look neat.

Wow!!! There is a market for that????

Of course there is. Any movable part is subject to loss or damage, and thus replacement. There's replacements for just about anything on my Dell laptops that I cannot forsee me ever needing - but you never know - Anything portable with moving parts is subject to more chance of damage than a large device that sits in one place.

We have gone through from a D70, D200, D700, D800, D850 and never had an issue with battery doors coming loose. If you remove a battery for charging close the door immediately on a fresh battery. Never just leave them open for any reason. I suspect there might be a little "carelessness" going on here. One of my wifes friends has lost several lens by just "forgetting" about them when they have been changed and not put back in her bag. It is a "thing" that you have to see yourself doing and taking the extra time to make sure that you double-check those items. Believe me it gets worse as you get older.

Nope never happened to any of my nikon cameras... And I am not gentle.

I have had my D3100 for six years (I was late to digital photography) and have never had that problem. All my Nikons, film and digital, have been exceptionally sturdy.

Same thing happened on my D3100. What I did was taped a little paper sleeve on the battery with a little tab, and covered it with scotch tape. It made the battery thick enough to stay in place unless I pull on the tab to remove it. I did it on 3 batteries for the D3100 and have used it that way for several years.

I lost the battery door on my D500. I covered the opening with black electrical tape which worked satisfactorily as a temporary fix. When I called Nikon for a replacement door, they insisted I send the camera back to the factory, which I did. They wanted to charge me some ridiculous price for the "repair," but the girl I spoke with on the phone went to bat for me and got all charges dropped because I am a long-time Nikon customer. Anyway, that battery cover door is very flimsy and prone to be accidentally knocked off. I love my D500, but that door sure doesn't live up to the rest of the camera in quality.

Those of you that have had broken battery doors, exactly how did it brake? Was the door open when it broke? Did you set it down with the door open?

Rongnongno, I am the same way. I have a retired D70s, a D7000, a D7100 and a D610 and have never had an issue. I have had the D70s door and the D7100 door come unsnapped and off a couple of times but that is all. I did purchase a spare door for the D7000, D7100 and D610 and carry those in my camera bag but have never needed them. The doors were intentionally made removable by Nikon so that the battery back/grip could easily go on. It just snaps on and off so is easily replaced. The replacement parts are only a few bucks and an easy spare to carry. For several of the cameras, the grip will not only use 2 of the Nikkor batteries but also can use double A batteries (in a pinch). I don't have the grip but I did get spare battery covers (cheap insurance).
