Hey guys just need to vent a little about my 7100. The little door to the battery compartment came off and I lost it. This is the 2nd time on this camera and I lost one on a 3200. It always has been snapped in place. Is it just me? Very frustrating !!! I guess the solution would be to put a battery grip on. Am I right? Never used a grip before

I do not want to be negative in any way, but I suspect you're having a big part in this, as I have never heard of anybody else having his problem!

I had the problem a couple of times on my first Nikon DSLR: a D5100. It taught me to double check I closed it firmly. Haven’t had the problem since on that camera, D7000, D5300, D800, or D5600.

I would say you probably didn't get the cover latched.
I agree with others, if you go for a battery grip get a Nikon, yes they are expensive, but the are well made, I have been using them for yrs. starting with My first D70 Nikon never had a problem!!!!!!extra weight ? yep but they do make the camera fit my hands better.

Amazon has them - less than $10. They slip right in to the camera.

You can get battery doors on eBay, but a grip would be one solution.

I cracked my little battery door on my Nikon D610 and was delighted to discover I could buy an inexpensive replacement (Amazon?) and when it came in the mail it snapped in: good as new. Try to google it or perhaps YouTube video and you will see that it is true. Good luck!

Yes, it's you. I've had my D7100 since they were first released. I also have a D70s that I've had since they were first released and a D610. All have similar battery doors and the ONLY time mine have come off was when I intentionally removed them. I do carry a spare of each in my camera bag but I've never had to use any of them. And yes, I use the D7100 and the D610 all of the time. I also have a D7000 and a spare door for it but I haven't had it long enough to say about longevity of the door as I bought it used from KEH.

It’s a Nikon thing I think. Has happens on my D700, D800 for me. I keep a bit of painters tape on it (so the tape hinges). Change the tape ever so often. It has to be newer tape so it sticks right and can be pressed so it doesn’t peel off. I change it every so often. I think the mount pin just isn’t long enough and the set pin or set pin socket just wear. I suppose it will happen with the D850 I have on order. Otherwise the bodys have been near indestructible for me give or take my first D200 not surviving a very hard drop onto concrete.

I always have trouble with my car tires. Always seem to get a nail, metal, plastic embedded through the tread. Doesn't matter what car I buy, always get some kind of spike in the tire. The rest of the car, NO PROBLEMS, just tires, go figure.

I dropped my D-90 almost a year ago and have kept resealing the compartment with duct tape and small folded piece of cardboard to provide extra pressure over the center of the battery cover after learning that "Nikon Repair Service" had a minimal charge of $250 for cameras that were dropped no matter what the reported problem was. Hard to believe I was not able to locate any local vendors in Palm Beach County that would even quote the repair. Aside from cosmetic appearances, the camera works fine, just a pain to recharge the battery and replace the tape. I use this model as a back up to my other D-90. It's cheaper fro me to buy another used D-90 than to repair the battery cover from Nikon!!! Such is state of repairs in modern times, when new products are what drives business.

The D3xxx & D5xxx require the battery door be removed before attaching the grip. I have both & have removed & replaced the door several times, never had it fall off, but I have seen replacements on eBay very reasonably.
