I think I am squarely in the middle. There are some photographers here that put me to shame.

Naming who I think is the best serves no purpose but to hurt feelings and start debates so I will pass on that question.

BTW, photos like this one put you near the top, in MY opinion.

There is no such thing as the best photographer! Everyone has their own niche! Captain C and others set the standards high for the rest of us! The best is like the best photo. It is in the eye of the beholder!

There are a lot of great photographers on here i see things from everyone l like. There is no way i would even try to answer this. I can say this, i am not even in the league of most of you you guys, and i feel it to me an honor and privilege just to get information from all of you.

Too much subjectivity and many criteria. The are many things to consider:
technical expertise, aesthetic understanding, type of photography, software understanding and expertise, type of equipment available, etc.
Plus, others opinions and understanding of the work that they do.

CaptainC, Roger Hicks and Nikonian72 are three I can name off the top of my head (there are many others on this forum as well). They consistently give pretty level-headed advice based on experience without tooting the "I'm a pro, so you should listen to me" horn. I work with enough arrogant PhD's and scientists all day long; it's refreshing to get an honest humble opinion based on real-life experience and practice.

The other reason I respect these three more than most is because they have access to their work via a web link. I don't easily appeal to authority, but their photography work is OUTSTANDING, so to me they are the true definition of a pro.

p.s. Captain, Roger and Nikonian... I'll take a check paid to the order of "mdorn". Send me a private message for the mailing address. :-)

I'd have to include Swamp Gator amoong the list. His wildlife photos are always spot-on focus wise and he brings us some very nice things. The last bird post was awesome.

She has be hesitatant to post much, because her pictures have not received much comment. I told her it was because they were so good the boo-birds did not bother to come out. Judy2011 is an excellent wildlife photographer (primarily).
