About user:
Occupaion: Disabled Interests: Photography Biography: I have been interested in photography all of my life. I did a little studying of photography and dark rooms, way back in the dark ages of high school. As I grew older, I drifted away from the thought of professional photography. I still loved to tinker with point and shoot cameras, loved to get a good clear shot, with just the right framing. But, never truly considered pursuing the career; it was always just a dream in the back of my mind.
Then, on December 9, 2009, an accident occurred that changed my life drastically; I have heard all my life that when a door closes a new one opens and this incident in my life opened a new door for me. It isn’t a door without challenges, but it is a door full of opportunity. Becoming disabled through a head on car accident placed me in a wheelchair. But, today, I am pursuing my lifelong love of photography. I have been given the chance to gather my photography equipment and the time to slowly build a new career for myself.
Most importantly, I have been given, through photography, a new look at life. Through the camera lens, I am able to see what is still beautiful about life and what I think is in need of preserving. As an environmental photographer, I love capturing images of the world around me. I especially love focusing on things from our past, even though most of these things are preserved in our national parks there are many people that never get to see these places. While they are preserved today does not mean they will always be there for others to view in the future so in my own little way I am preserving a piece of history as it was when I saw it. I have been interested in genealogy for many years and tracing my ancestors from the Burroughs farm where booker t Washington lived as a child to following my ancestor at Williamsburg to Gettysburg is what got me interested in photographing these things. The life that came before us and the great strife they endured to make a way in this country are things that interest me and I want to share those with you.
