The two of ya' kind of stunk it up just a little Lol. Please define Native American. Ha, ha.

Yep. In light of several developments and discoveries in recent years, it's tough right at this point to define what is and isn't a Native American. I'll just put it like this - we're looking for what are presumed to be descendants of the Chukchi people who supposedly crossed over the Bering Strait allegedly becoming the first inhabitants of North America and who have up until just lately been considered to be the forefathers of the "Indian" people in North and South America. Examples would be Cherokee, Sioux, Navajo, Creek, Aztec, Inca, Anasazi, etc., et. al.

What about those of us who are born in Chicago? My mom didn't even need a boat. (yeah, yeah. I know it was a land bridge. I am just joking). Come to think of it, she was off the boat. She was born Greece. They kind of look like Indians.

This list included Creek, not Greek. You'll have to wait on the next boat. We'll do a Native Mediterranean thread next. :-)

Could you please tell us a little about your pictures, where and when taken, about... whatever you know and care to share. Thanks for sharing them.

The pictures were taken at the Shinnecock Annual PowWow on LI, held on the reservation usually on Labor Day weekend. It's probably the largest one held in New York and gets the biggest attendance. The Shinnecocks are part of the Mohawk tribe. There are several smaller ones held from Spring through Summer. There are several less known tribes associated with Long Island but assimilation has taken its toll. We've learned to appreciate the culture through our friend Chief Little Fox of the Paumanauke tribe.
This picture was from the Six Dreamcatchers PowWow, a smaller one held in 2009.[/quote]

Thanks again for sharing both the information and the images. It's very interesting.

When I was quite young and went to SNU in Oklahoma, all civilized tripes were represented at the bus station in OKC. ... wrapped in native blankets.

Hey, looks like you found yourself a "2 spirit" native American.
FYI....that means he is "gay". One of my friends is also a 2 spirit. It is a movement among the native American people of total acceptance of anyone different.
