Not my first picture, that was an Acorn Woodpecker getting a drink, through the double pane glass door. I hadn't realized how dirty I let that door get. And my second was this hawk, but again through the glass. (out of glass cleaner so wiped with a rag, now less dirty) Then I slowly went over and slide the door partway open so I could aim the camera through the opening. This hawk is an expert at messing up photos. It Either turned its head so I got the back or would lunge forward so part of the head went out of the frame. For a while it was on the ground and also added hiding behind potted plants to the list of tricks. Just before it flew off it went up to the top of the roof on the swing set playhouse. And of course those are backl...

This boat is having a well earned rest for some maintenance. The shots are the same except for the perspective. The first one is a 'normal' shot with the camera at eye level--the second shot was taken with the camera at knee level, using the tilt screen. Downloading is recommended.

Just a few shots taken in Peru in November 2016. This was a "bucket list" trip into the Andes ruins and then to the Galapagos. I was interested to learn that Machu Picchu is on the Brazil side of the Andes and may have been an agricultural "laboratory" that was built in three stages, indicating that it may have been abandoned and reoccupied a couple of times. The Incas were trying to develop potato agriculture for the more tropical Amazon basin. They succeeded in developing many hybrids of potato...but never a hybrid that allowed them to expand into the Amazon lowlands and tropics. The markets are full of potatoes of various kinds...very colorful. The hats worn by the indigenous women are unique for each village or region.
Please o...

took advantage of a nice winter day and went to our Zoo. Hope you like them.
Taken with Nikon D5600 with the 18-140 lens.
Some minor post processing on some of them.
Is it only my laptop or can we only add one picture at a time and it takes minutes to load each picture when I hit "store original". Arghh!
I would have added more but these took forever.

Bannack is a Ghost Town in SW Montana an operates as Bannack State Park. Bannack was founded in 1862 and served briefly as the capital of Montana Territory. At one time it had a population of 10,000. It is said that Henry Plummer's gold lies up one of the hills. Henry was hanged without reveling the site. (if indeed there is one)
Attached are a few B&W images. I will post color ones later.

Sunday, December 30, 2018, began very cloudy when I left my home in Orono to drive to the Winter Harbor/Schoodic area - about 1.5 hour drive. When I arrived in Winter Harbor, it was cold with a steady temperature of 17°. However, the light was wonderful. Here are three photos: the first taken from near the town wharf in Winter Harbor and the second and third taken from the Schoodic Loop Road within Acadia National Park. -Paul

This image was made shortly after takeoff from Fairbanks to Las Vegas. The pilot got permission to "buzz" the mountain. I had just gotten my first Leica M6 and 35mm f1.4 ASPH lens, the windows were both pretty clean and not scratched up and had learned previously that to maximize your success you need to get as close to the plane window as possible without actually touching the window with the front of your lens. This provides at least two advantages (1 reflections from the inside of the window are covered up by you and 2) the high-speed subtle vibrations will not be transfered from the plane to your camera. These vibrations will deteriorate your image. The image was published by Leica in one of their rags and I can print this with my ...

There is no “perfect” day in photography, but every day gives up the opportunity to create interesting images. It is up to the photographer to imagine it, capture it and present it. Taken around noon, in the worst light of the day, after a rain storm with a gray monotone sky.

These are my last 2 photos shot this year. It was a nice sunny day yesterday with new snow up in the Oregon Cascades. I don't Down Hill Ski anymore but I still enjoy watching the snow bunnies and mogel mice from the comfort of the lodge at Mt Bachelor.
