Bannack is a Ghost Town in SW Montana an operates as Bannack State Park. Bannack was founded in 1862 and served briefly as the capital of Montana Territory. At one time it had a population of 10,000. It is said that Henry Plummer's gold lies up one of the hills. Henry was hanged without reveling the site. (if indeed there is one)

Attached are a few B&W images. I will post color ones later.

Very nice B&W photos. I like the look of B&W anyway. I find for photos of what you shot, the B&W fits nicely with the time period. -Paul

The whole area around Bannack (one of the several "spellings" of Bannock), is fascinating. There is also a Virginia City not far away. I look forward to your color shots. Thanks for posting these.

Enjoyed your posts. My maternal grandfather was Charles Plummer, he died before my time. My grandmother told us very little about Henry regardless of how much I asked lol. I found a couple of books about the Plummer gang that filled me in. Thanks for the posts.

I can’t see how colour would improve these photos. They carry a certain feeling that colour couldn’t, IMO.

I have been going there for over 60+ years. My parents was found of that place. I remember knowing some of the last original residence. much of the mining structure was still intact. Nice shots. I hope to go there this summer.

That is a very good observation. The nature of the subject and the fine detail of weathering and texture are accentuated in B&W. Color may well detract some from the impact.

Very well done! I agree with Walt and Adam, color images wouldn’t have the same impact or feel as these excellent B&W images.

Love these in B&W. In color, the story would be different.

Along with Bannack there are a lot of great rustic gems here in Montana. Thanks for reminding me of all the great B&W photos to be had. Beautiful pics. Color would def. ruin those photos. IMO
