Hybrid video shooter going for better codecs
in Main Photography Discussion

Hi ,
I shoot Nikon DSLRs the d500,810 and d850. I shoot live music photography and videography. My video quality is needing to increase the codecs anyway. My video company LMV Productions of Center Illinois is working on stuff for a local PBS channel. We shot live music performances all summer long . We are needing the better codecs required by television and broadcast. We also shoot for a fairly large festival with 50 plus bands and 3stages . It’s all day for 4 days .
We are looking at more and different cameras. Here is the cameras we are looking at getting. The BlackMagic Pocket Cinema 4K with metabones f mount adapter(s) the apsc one an ff one . The Nikon Z6 with the f mount adapter and maybe a Z mount lens with each camera body we ...

LUMINAR 3
in Main Photography Discussion

I have Luminar 3 installed on 2 Pc's. It takes up a lot of space, so I tried to uninstall it from the control panel, as usual, but it won't uninstall. It wants to install again. I have never had a problem like this before. Has anybody else had that problem? I'm using Windows 10, 64 bit.

Dash cam
in Main Photography Discussion

It not that i want a dash cam although i have been thinking about them. It seem a some companies have come out with dash cams that have 4K abilities.

I've seen the prices for "cheap" units are just over $120 USD. For anything that is relatively good it's around $400 or more.

Most of my life I've been building and reverse engineering things for something other than what its intended. As normal i thought about my Samsing Gear 360 camera.

Most have no doubt already put 2 +2 together as to what I'm gett to. My Gear 360 presently only costs about $70 USD. It has 4K and very good camera recording abilities plus i have controlled it from my auto when it was 50 feet away, for many minutes, and saved directly to my smartphone.

Sure it ...

Cameras I had part II
in Main Photography Discussion

An earlier post asking what cameras we have had got me thinking back about ones I forgot to mention. My first SLR was an Exacta Twin TL. Anybody ever had one of these? What kind of results did you get? My second was a Rollei 35 Zeiss Tessar 3.5 lens and I made some great images with this one. Another one of those I never should have parted with. Of course shooting all over Germany certainly helped with good photo opportunities.

Printer Ink Question
in Main Photography Discussion

I would like to hear the thoughts on the pro and cons of reloaded ink cartridges as compared to the ones from the manufacturer. The cost is about half of the originals, and like everyone else, it's good to save a buck or two. I produce mostly snapshots and if I need anything that requires larger or better printing, it goes out of house. Thank you for your opinions.

Sparkles on snow.
in Photo Analysis

I have been trying to get a decent picture of sparkles on snow for two years now. Just because I like them. Lately it seems I do better with high shutter speed and small aperture. Not sure why. And the snow needs to be dark to see them. The first was taken with my 300mm Takumar manual lens - ISO 400, ss 1/4000, f ?. This lens need 18 feet to get in focus so is probably not the best choice. The second was at 200mm on my 55-200 lens, ISO 1250, ss 1/2000, f22. The second was dark blue and i switched it to b&w. Is there any way to get the sparkles to show on white or very light gray snow? As I see them with my eyes? Or is this a lost cause and I should be content with what I've got? Camera is Fuji X-H1.

Challenge: "White Balance" Jan. 3-5, 2019
in Photo Contests, Challenges, Periodicals

It's been a while since we explored "White Balance". "The color of an object is affected by the lighting conditions under which it is viewed. Ours eyes and brain compensate for different types of light so...we see a white object as white regardless of the lighting. Digital cameras need help to compensate for different types of light. 'White Balance' is that help." (Setting White Balance by Lindsay Silverman). Forum policy says "no direct links to articles", so please copy the links below into your browser BUT be sure to remove the ( ) or links will not work. Do NOT remove the info between the parentheses. The articles are short, give examples and explanations.

Salt River Horses . . . I just can't stay away!
in Photo Gallery

The weather in Arizona this time of year is perfect for getting outside and one of my very favorite activities continues to be photographing the Salt River's wild horses. I am so fascinated by their relationships. That is the theme that seems to dominate my pictures. As always, I really appreciate your comments and suggestions.

"How's it hanging?" (NYC Street Scene Series)
in Photo Gallery

Definition/etymology:

"Why do some people use "how's it hanging?" as greeting? What is "it" referring to?
It is often used in English without any very specific meaning, as in It’s raining. In How’s it hanging? it refers to life in general."

Just couldn't resist taking this with my cellphone on my way to the bank. This friendly fella was playing Christmas tunes on his flute and immediately switched to playing Hava Negillah when he saw me coming, all while hanging upside down from a tree on 34th St. between 8th and 9th avenues. I was moved to leave him a $1 just for his marketing skills.

Midtown Manhattan - The Street Photographers wonderland. Never a dull moment.

Happy New Year to all.

Cormorant, Fox and Deer
in Photo Gallery

Way in the distance I noticed this Cormorant sitting on a fallen branch that was floating in the water .
Walking a bit further we came across a Fox and some Deer....
Images are taken in the AWD ( Amstersdam Watersupply Dunes ) near Scheveningen at the coast from the North Sea.
This area became a large habitat for wildlife like deer, foxes and birds..
In these dunes water is filtered in natural way and transported to facilities to support the water supply for the region Amsterdam.

Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse
in Photo Gallery

This is the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse located in Acadia National Park, ME. I think it is pretty fitting to visit the lighthouse on a very foggy day. I made this shot with my Sony a58/Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC gear. For a five year old camera and lens, I believe it does a pretty job.

Thanks...Vaughan K.
